Not really. It was the security detail that mattered here, if there wasn't one, we would have a lot of dead congressmen. You could also flip this around and say that if we got the guns off the streets this wouldn't have happened.

Yeah this wouldn't have happened, he would've either acquired a gun illegally or he would've used another method, like running everybody down with his van. And they'd have still been defenseless if Scalise didn't happen to be in attendance, because the others didn't have security details.

I'm not even sure I want to answer you as it seems you already make up your mind what argument youre going to forward to someone before they've even responded or before you've even made a rudimentary attempt to draw context from it.

If the shooters motives were merely because he thought all GOP policies suck, then fry him. (albeit unnecessary as he is already dead)
If the shooters wife or daughter was raped by one or any of the GOP baseball practitioners then no I don't condemn it.
If the shooter was mentally incapacitated, then no I don't condemn him, I condemn whomever it was that was far too irresponsible by allowing him to have firearms.

I just refuse to be pigeon-holed into one way of thinking when there are multiple reasons that sometimes good people do evil things.

That is an important point. The fact that there were some there who had guns kept a tragedy from turning into a massacre.

But I'm curious: how do you propose we get rid of all the guns on the streets?

Of course its going to happen again. The problem is systemic, it's not cured by a few nice words one day from all media outlets, from the senators/representatives.


The hate and divide has been a long time coming and anyone who didn't see that has been asleep at the wheel. But the aforementioned niceties in a 24 hour period isn't going to fix what decades of fostering this divide have now wrought.

We would never be able to get all the guns of the street. Not only is it our constitutional right to bear arms, it would take a massive draconian effort that would invade the privacy of each and every home to even come close to pulling it off.

I just refuse to be pigeon-holed into one way of thinking when there are multiple reasons that sometimes good people do evil things.

If this is how you go through life, then surely you can never make any decisions.

For example, none of us can see into the mind of any serial killer, so we don't know if we can condemn them.

It ends up in nihilism.

How can you condemn the person who sells a mentally ill person firearms? How do you know what that seller was thinking? Perhaps they were suffering from mental illness? Perhaps their wife was raped and the seller thought the person he was selling the gun to was going to kill his wifes raper?

Why are you willing to judge that person?

I guess this is off topic so whatever. But I guess we will not see you casting any judgements on any people, including politicians in the future, because you have no idea why they are taking the actions they are taking.
