Angry scenes as hundreds of anti-Muslim protesters at 'March Against Sharia' rallies in 28 cities

Demonstrators gathered in at least 28 cities across the US for anti-Sharia law marches on Saturday.
March Against Sharia rallies are organized by ACT for America, an organization that says it is focused on fighting terrorism and promoting national security.
This year's rallies are expected to be the group's largest protest against Islam and took place in cities including Phoenix, Chicago, Austin, Atlanta, New York, Boston and Seattle.
But many of the marches saw even larger counter-rallies.
Hundreds marched through downtown Seattle, banging drums, cymbals and cowbells behind a large sign saying 'Seattle stands with our Muslim neighbors'.
Participants chanted 'No hate, no fear, Muslims are welcome here' on their way to City Hall, while a a phalanx of bicycle police officers separated them from an anti-Shariah rally numbering in the dozens.

Local activists even set up an 'Ask an American Muslim' booth where attendees could meet and learn about their Muslim neighbors.

In front of the Trump building in downtown Chicago, about 30 people demonstrated against Islamic law and in favor of President Donald Trump, shouting slogans and holding signs that read 'Ban Sharia' and 'Sharia abuses women'.

About twice as many counter-protesters marshaled across the street.

Every so often theyll interview a guy who says that Sharia law should be implemented throughout the world.

Although its not very realistic.

Moslems make up a tiny % in any nation outside of the ME and its not as though theyre in charge of the government, law making etc.

Seems more like fear mongering than anything.

Interesting point you make. Major problem is if you grow up in a fundamental Muslim household in the US and are gay, or you want to leave Islam in favour of Atheism or another religion...

England has long had Sharia Law Courts run out of Mosques for close to a decade under the guise of facilitating divorce within the Islamic community. It's come to light that illegal punishments have been taken place such as whippings for drinking alcohol and premarital sex and a mock "stoning" for a teen accused of sodomy - he survived but it was used as a warning if he engaged in gay activities again. These punishments are completely unacceptable in a Modern Western society such as the UK but it still happens. You cannot have one law for Muslims that's in direct opposition to the overall countries laws. Thus where the problem of Sharia in Western societies lies.

I thought the marches were against Sharia law, not Muslims. Just as people can be Catholic yet not be completely bound by cannon law.

Considering the current climate, I wonder what Muslim/Islamic issues stateside would be like today if Malcolm X wasn't assassinated...

Well, inland border checkpoints are unconstitutional as hell, but they are 'allowed' to keep functioning under the guise of "homeland security"...

It's only the 4th, 5th amendments. Who needs those, right???

The patriot act absolutely destroyed the constitution. So now everything is debatable it seems.

Has a lot to do with public consent as well. You don't need congressional approval anymore, just simple majority public opinion can usurp the constitution.

I wonder if the constitution even applies to those that didn't sign it.....hmmm....another valid argument to strip you naked of rights, inherent or otherwise.

Inland border checkpoints?

You mean DWI checkpoints? If so the US Supreme Court ruled they are lawful provided certain conditions, which are required, are met. If you are referring to border crossings they fall under the border search exception to he 4th amendment since it is not dealing with an individuals rights but the rights of a sovereign nation to screen people wishing to enter. If you are referring to checkpoints / border patrol stop away from the border the US Supreme Court ruled they must comply with the 4th amendment just as if they were all other law enforcement - reasonable suspicion to stop and probable cause to arrest / search.
