Hullooooooo *waves*

I'm good! Not caffeinated yet though... I always told myself never to post until I've had caffeine. Bad things happen and I end up feeling like an idiot.

It's 7am, and once more I'll be hanging around waiting, seeing if today is the day my oven finally gets repaired! It nearly exploded a couple of weeks ago and I asked my real estate for emergency repairs. A guy came two days later to have a look at it. And hasn't been back since.

This is also the third time in three years my oven has required repairs. So there's obviously something wrong with it. They likely won't simply just "replace" the thing until it sets the place on fire though. *shakes fist*

(Which it almost did this time. Giant BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!!!! Smoke everywhere!!!!!! Me running down the hallway to switch off power to it at the powerbox. *shudder*)

was the dragon night anything like the elf star?

I'll admit I had to look it up, I was pretty sure of what you meant though.

Whoa you've been writing a story for 20 years? Have you ever shared any of it??

Oooooh, no no no.

When I was 10 years old - I read this wonderful story by Louise Cooper, it was called Star Ascendant. It was part of a trilogy but I never got to read the rest of the trilogy, and I don't really want to now in case I "steal" from it. I wrote a silly 10 year old's fanfiction of the story: the main character representing me, performing ancient magicks and being pulled into this wonderful universe, and I would try to help the people, only, in my attempts to help, I ended up more corrupt than the current evil ruling over the land and I joined with him and the people had no chance.

It's kind of sat in my mind over 20 years, evolving, transforming, becoming my own, my own people and characters, my own land, the people having their own hardships. And 2 years ago I started to write it. I've shared little bits and pieces here on ATS, but it's improved a LOT since then... in my neverending search for perfection and constant re-writing.

(I really need to stop doing that and just write. I can fix it all later!!)

I've worked for a repair company that included appliances-
sometimes it takes a while for the required parts to come in.
It's a good idea to touch base with them if possible, if it's
anything like the large company I worked for, organizing and
keeping track of all the service calls can become quite the
smozzle.

This is only a small company in a small town, and we are waiting for parts to come in. I called the real estate yesterday to give them a poke and a prod, hopefully that helped the speed in which the parts are to be delivered.

(The guy gave me an estimated date of last Wednesday, so obviously he meant this coming Wednesday!)

No, I just really want a delicious lasagne. Or roast pork. Or even just the contents of the box of Yum Cha sitting in my freezer. At least the stove-top still works perfectly fine!

No! That's what the microwave is for!
Be careful though... I have it under good authority that microwaving socks can be hazardous to one's health.

*solemn nod*

Ummm...perhaps in courage and a fierceness to oppose evil throughout the lands, light against the dark and all. Both great at battle... he with his mighty strength and fire breathing abilities and she with her swordsmanship and other training in battle and the magic arts. The elf has a vulnerability much like a humans as her thoughts, and feelings run deep. Dragons have great compassion and love but are stronger emotionally.

You will not remain tortured here in Accasia. Here, there is much compassion, love, friendships and adventures yet to unfold, a sacred place.

Oh, the dragon night was a man? I must admit a shortcoming, I've never been able to play a girl character, something which invariably stands in my way as a writer XD

Yes here in Acassia where we can see magic much more easily and feel it's presence without a struggle... that is my struggle in a lot of ways, to reach out and grab hold of ny magic and use it to help people...

But we need that microwave!! My footsies will be all cold and icy without their toastie microwaved socks!

(I've never had a problem with microwaving socks... apparently BASS had an issue once though, woopsies!)

As for my writing... you first told me of the Shed and the wonders within, in my Horseman chapter that I posted in the short stories... I read that chapter, and read what I have now, and it really is soooo much better now. I feel a bit embarrassed that the original unedited version is up here for all to see. *hides*

(I really love this dialogue though!! I'm rubbish at dialogue, and I'm really really pleased how this turned out)

He had wasted too much time. Matthew quickly rubbed his hands through the tangled mess of his hair in a feeble attempt to lessen the knotted strands, to become somewhat presentable after his restless night. It would have to do. Hastily he equipped his scabbard and strode forth from the room, an authority emanating from him as he at last transformed into the very image of an Obsidian Horseman, a dangerous smirk crossing his face as he noted the speed in which the stableboy had scarpered.

Hurrying along the dimly lit corridor, he hastened his steps as an irregular paranoia began to tickle the skin at the back of his neck, his sardonic grin quick to disappear as a nameless fear beckoned to him from the shadows, as the ethereal whispers planted inaudible scenarios deep within the crumbling bastion of his thoughts. No longer mocking the fearful boy who had been at his door, a chill struck his spine and he near ran down the spiralling staircases, the fear at last dissipating as he exited the castle and entered the courtyard. Wiping away the cold sweat that had formed upon his brow, he felt utterly ridiculous and yet entirely relieved as he stepped into the outside world, away from the whispering walls of the castle, glad that his irrational fear had passed unwitnessed.

Inhaling the cool morning’s air, he allowed a moment for his eyes to adjust to the dull light of the dawn and glanced up into the Aethya. The maelstrom was simply stunning this morning; a calm and serene green emanated from the heavens, leaving him feeling almost completely tranquil after the superstitious fear that had shrouded him in the castle’s hallways. He glanced towards the stables in the distance and saw the vague silhouette of a robed figure softly stroking one of the horses. Lord Nicolai. Composing his face, Matthew strode confidently over the stone slabs of the courtyard towards the Magister and stood proudly before him.

“You requested my presence, milord?”

The robed man stepped back from the obsidian steed and drew himself to his full height, appearing almost anxious as he peered down at Matthew, an apprehensive smile stretched out upon his gaunt face as he waved a painfully thin hand casually into the air.

“At ease.”

Matthew smirked inwardly at the irony of the Magister’s command in conjunction with the unconcealed expression on his face, before the realisation of the deeper implications behind the man’s appearance struck him. Swallowing heavily, he quickly wiped at his brow once more before attempting to relax his posture, and shuffled through his pockets to find a cube of sugar for the horse.

Nicolai gazed up towards the Aethya, the dawn’s light enhancing the harsh lines drawn into his face, and sighing heavily he echoed Matthew’s thoughts from moments prior.

“The heavens are beautiful this morning…”

Nicolai forced his eyes from the heavens and glanced sideways at his Commander, unable to hide the concern from his gaze as he gruffly asked.

“Are you prepared for this?”

“…Milord?”

An awkward laugh escaped from the Magister, the sound of his falsified mirth ringing tensely in the silence of the dawn, the strain of the past few days evident upon his taut face.

“The demands of our new lord and leader! Of course!”

He cut his laughter short and stared hard at Matthew, the glare of unconcealed anger evident behind the darkness of his eyes.

“I called for you this morning before our esteemed High Magister has the mind to. You will not repeat these words! Under the guise of that childlike exterior we are under the complete domination of an absolute madman… we must look towards the Aethya for only our Gods can help us now! As authority over you and your company, tis only fair you have the time to ingest this miserable truth before you encounter the man yourself. And do not think for a second that you will not.”

Looking towards the heavens once more, Nicolai sighed despairingly.

“It will be sooner than you know.”

Matthew subconsciously ran his fingers through his hair, no longer feeling the desire to be as well-presented as he had originally intended, as Nicolai continued to almost absent-mindedly speak his thoughts.

“The man actually believes that the renegade outfit on the mainland is a threat to us! Oh yes, they exist… they are nothing. A few dissatisfied farmers and villagers. Nary a mage in their midst. And yet, our esteemed leader professes an entire secret army is establishing itself. It’s entirely inconceivable!”

The Magister whipped himself around to face Matthew, black robes swirling about him, a fire burning clearly within the darkness of his pained eyes.

“Are you capable? I demand to know! You and your company, are you capable of riding your horses to the mainland? Can you command your men to murder these innocents?”

Matthew stared at his superior, eye to eye, a rush of unintelligible thoughts trying and failing to make sense of all within his mind before he awkwardly forced himself to avert his gaze. Several silent moments passed, his eyes fixed upon the stone beneath his feet, before at last he managed to whisper.

“I will perform my duties as required by our High Magister Caelin; I am a loyal servant.”

Nicolai smirked grimly, no whit of humour evident in the sneer.

“You should practice that sentence, boy. For when you deliver those words to Caelin you will be required to believe them.”

An uneasy silence fell between the two men, both lost in their own thoughts as the morning sky began to brighten; the long silence eventually broken by the frenzied whinnying of the nearby steed. Nicolai looked down at Matthew and smiled darkly.

“Go. Do not forget our discourse this morn.”

That's awesome. At first I thought you had misspelled scampered; it's not every day I learn two words and I had never seen scarpered before!

This bit?

I live that...

Ah my little warrior, it is much easier than you think. Often it is the little things in life that matter most. You would be amazed at just how deeply you can touch another person's life and make a huge difference.

Sometimes as much as we desire to try and fix things for someone and take their pain away, it may be merely words that can bring them hope and be the candle in the dark or the light at the end of the tunnel. It could be a warm hug or a simple gesture of kindness. Those little things in themselves is the magic. Though we may not think we are doing much of anything, to another person those little things can have a profound affect.

You have brightened my life and I am sure many others.
