Just looking back, I am reminded that in 2016 when Comey wasn't exactly flavour of the day, the Brookings institution warned then that it would be a bad idea to sack Comey, and that it would alienate both Republicans and Democrats...Brookings put it also this way,

The lawyers said: "For those concerned that President Trump will trample the rule of law — liberals and conservatives alike — Comey’s fate is one potential canary in the coal mine.

Another thing is that Comey was to address the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on worldwide threats, two days after he was fired, (aka yesterday) he has now been invited testify in closed session on the 16th May, while some are saying he should be allowed in open session...this is how grave things are becoming, and even the Russian foreign secretary, Sergei Lavrov asked if he had been fired, then shook his head...although perhaps a feigned surprise, who knows..but still he had to comment.

Better hope ? He'd better hope....
When I said that to my kids there sure was a threat in there. You'd better hope I don't find out you cut class. You'd better hope I don't find out you went to that party I said you couldn't go to.

Of course. It means "if you did, there will be consequences. Consequences you WON"T like".
A threat.

It sure as hell didn't, Trumps's bait as you call it, is actually him putting himself in even more shiite, he could have broken the federal law/s with his remarks.
Senate oversight committee,

*lawmakers, Reps. John Conyers and Elijah Cummings, cited federal law that criminalizes attempts to delay or obstruct witnesses, like Comey, from providing testimony.
So too did Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi ask Trump’s top White House lawyer to provide any such “tapes” that may have been made, as well as additional details about the president’s meeting with Russian leaders earlier this week. Krishnamoorthi serves on the House’s oversight committee as well.

Yuh see, the silly shiite forgot he already has a White House history, and now they'll want to know about any Flynn discussion, as well as Comey...that's just those two so far, they probably also want to know about the timing of the firing, just two days before Comey was to appear in front of the House intelligence committee.
Thing is, had he not mentioned tapes there would have been no comeback, and if he tries to quip, it was only a joke at this stage, all hell could break loose.

*various sources.

FRom Wikipedia

Nixon was not the first president to record his White House conversations; the practice was initiated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt[4] in 1940.

The tapes' existence came to light during the Watergate scandal of 1973 and 1974, when the system was mentioned during the televised testimony of White House aide Alexander Butterfield before the Senate Watergate Committee.[5] Nixon's refusal of a congressional subpoena to release the tapes constituted an article of impeachment against Nixon, and led to his subsequent resignation on August 9, 1974.[6]

Although on the other side, if you knew what was on them and you wanted to force them into public record inadvertently, this would be a great way to do it.

Instead of getting more "I can't answer that question at this time"

So idk

President Donald Trump issued a thinly veiled threat Friday to fired FBI Director James Comey.

"James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press," the President tweeted.
The tweet marks an extraordinary development in the ongoing feud between Trump and the agencies investigating alleged ties between his campaign and Russia.

Trump threatens Comey in new tweet

I wonder what rump is talking about? What conversations??

What is he talking about or is this another Trump attention grab to divert away from Russia?

What are your thoughts?

LOL...wow...talk about "played"....what a great ploy. Throw this out knowing you have audio of not only your conversation but others as well. Get the libtards riled, then leak it all.

The simple fact that folks can possibly think any idiot can scam their way to the most powerful position in the world is dumbfounding.

Trump is so far ahead of the game and media he is likely bored. This may be one of the smartest administrations we have had...ever.

I mean this is one of the dumbest "rope a dope" plays I have ever heard of and the libtards are biting like white on rice, fuzz on mice, dots on dice and cold on ice...

Everyone should get on twitter and tell trump to release any "tapes" that he has. Don't use them as leverage. We all want to hear them.

This is all so stupid. Does anyone really believe that all calls made by the president are not recorded?

You have to be really naive to believe that. Of course there are recordings, and probably not only at the white house, but also with the NSA, and quite possibly with the CIA too. If listening in to conversations by some wannabe terrorist is important, don't you think they might also spy on the most powerful man in the world?

Quite frankly it would also be stupid of a president not to record their own conversations, considering their potential importance, and the fact no one has a perfect memory.

This letter from the congressman is just more "RESISTANCE" BS. They will never stop with this Russia crap, because unfortunately a lot of ignorant, gullible morons believe there is something to it. Since the Democrats have nothing positive to sell, they will continue this Russia garbage forever because so many of their followers are so dumb they require no proof, only baseless accusations.

Trump needs to expose the crimes of Clinton and Obama. Once they are exposed for the corrupt scum they are, the Russian storyline will fade away.

At my house it did.
I arrested electronics like a narc. Nintendo...give it...tv. nope. CD player thank you very much.
Good thing it was the days before cell phones. But I got a game boy or two.
My oldest played on Atari. My baby the game boy.

To almost anyone that phrase infers a threat of consequences.

Not sure which came first, our President acting like a stern parent or the rest of Washington acting like incorrigible children. I used the same on my kids but it was no threat. Just a simple statement of fact. Threats don't work on kids because they know there's a chance you won't follow through.
