Some old Country Songs from the past

Great thread! It brought back many fond memories for me. I had the great good luck to be able to meet many of these country music legends in the '70s when a relative of mine was working as an announcer there. He was able to get us backstage so we got to know a lot of the regulars pretty well. Marty Robbins was one of my favorites because he was always making us laugh. He loved pulling practical jokes and showing off his cars. But the night I remember best of all the time we spent together was the night he did El Paso City in his dressing room for us. There were only 5 or 6 of us there when he said, "Hey, I wrote a song coming in the other night and I want to see what you think of it. It's gonna raise some hackles around here but I've got to record it." When I heard it I realized what he meant by "raising some hackles." Mentioning the idea of reincarnation on the Opry could get him into trouble but he was fairly familiar with troubles with the management. He raised a lot of eyebrows when he was the first country musician to use brass at the Opry.
