on an older computer so im not sharing vids (othe machine handles it etter, this page is still loading as i type)

but ive been deep in older country lately. Im a big John Prine fan, and have been stuck on Sam Stone in my head lately, with all the talk of war going on.

If you like old country like waylon jennings, pick up some jamey johnson. legit outlaw country in the modern age.

Listened to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys all my life. Actually met the Texas Playboys in 1964 at the Fort Worth Rodeo after their performance. Brother of Robert Mitchum named John Mitchum was also their. He played in some ongoing TV western. It was an uncomfortable situation for me but my older girlfriend was all in. John Mitchem mentioned I would be good for Hollywood because of my emotion and expression. Ha. Think even then I saw thru that. Anyway a difficult night for me trying to avoid these older predators.

BTW, never told anyone about this so y'all keep it secret, okay?

Need to make a correction. They weren't predators. it was a thing my friend said and I ended up in the hotel room with one of the men sitting in a chair next to the end table scared to death as the man laid on the bed. He never approached me otherwise. Probably saw I was scared. We exchanged general chit chat as I waited for the knock on the dooe from my older friend. She egged it on and I was too timid to say hell no.

Gotta admit it sounds familiar but that is all. Don't remember the band. Maybe I am not as old as it think.

No one's give Charlie his due in the thread yet.

And he's been at it for a long long time.

I turned twenty-one in prison
Doing life without parole
No one could steer me right
But Mama tried ... Mama tried

Mama tried to raise me better
But her pleading I denied
That leaves only me to blame
'Cause Mama tried

I'm still working my way through these and enjoying them all!

The Hank Thompson one brought to memory the answer to it, recorded by Kitty Wells. If memory serves me she was the first solo female to hit the top of the charts with this tune despite all the controversy it caused for her. I met her in the '70s and always looked forward to seeing and visiting with her backstage at the Opry.
