So you all got trolled by the news, AGAIN!

America is about to hit north korea....with new sanctions. As myself and a few others have been saying this is nothing new, its been happening since before most of you were born. Threats and sanctions.

The US is to tighten sanctions on North Korea and step up diplomatic moves aimed at pressuring the country to end its nuclear and missile programmes.

President Donald Trump's strategy was announced after a special briefing for US senators.

In like a lion out like a lamb.

I was expecting world war 3 today.

I guess no news is good news.

Trump isn't even going to be there..

This appears a show..

So anti-establishement Trump wants the whole of the establishment to gather in one place, but he's not going to be there...

Not at all worrying!

Aaahk!

You made me remember the season finale with Cercei Lanister and Game of Thrones!

Lol, maybe Trump's a fan too

That's fine. He didn't ask for the briefing. Mitch McConnell did on Monday morning. The MSM ignored the truth and painted it as Trump's meeting. Most people always fall for MSM spin/lies. That's why they'll never stop.

Do you think they are organizing this meeting with out Trumps knowledge? or his input?

I doubt it.

Well, Trump did attend this meeting as many of us and most of the members of the media said he would. Actually, after meeting with media at 3:15pm regarding the other issues of the day such as tax cuts and other things, he excused himself to attend the meeting. Heard him live on WSB radio here in Atlanta as I was driving around.

Thanks, in otherwords, nothing. Much ado about nada. When and if there is a (successful) 6th nuclear test, does that change any equations? Combined with a successful launch of a particular kind of missile? Or will it be just status quo ad naseum.
Just political theater to boost ratings? Nothing until there is something.

Top officials emphasize diplomatic, economic pressure on North Korea in briefing (CBS)

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Delaware, told reporters afterward that it was a “sobering briefing” in which it was made clear how much **thought and planning is going into preparing military options if called for** and proportional diplomatic strategy to respond to the North Korean threat.

Asked if the U.S. is prepared to strike North Korea, Sen. David Perdue, R-Georgia, said, “I think there’s a lot to happen before that’s even to be considered.”

Separately, a senior administration official told reporters, “What you’ve seen is really an integrated effort to prioritize diplomatic and informational aspects of national power. But also, what you’ll see soon is using the economic dimension of national power as well as the *military preparations that are underway.”*

so...just a matter of time? Or eternal saber rattling...

I am still wondering why this happened in the White House. It would have been a lot easier to do this on Capitol HIll. Definitely a move that made this who charade seem more important than it actually was.

What a bunch of jackasses.

Maybe if things "escalate" quickly, Trump can act and then to deflect criticism say ....but I briefed everyone....and since there were no recordings (No cell phones allowed) of what was actually said...

will be interesting to see if there is a same thing with the entire House too...

What's the main thrust of the two parties at the moment? to keep power? I would hazard that the economic collapse it like a slow moving train wreck, if they don't have a War soon their days will be numbered.
Plus I did see one senator saying that as far as the budget went for the military their would be no problem in increasing the Federal debt. So their will be no freeze on the twenty trillion. The ramifications are pretty clear.

Sanctions will NOT work with Lil' Kim. This loon is crazy and evil enough to have members of his own family murdered, the most recent of which was his brother.

If he's capable of doing that, Lil' Kim can do anything....especially if he feels cornered with no way out. Imo he would take everyone with him.

Re. NK's nuke capabilities, I've heard so many different opinions I don't know who to believe. All I know is that I don't think anyone should "assume" they don't have this capability. And even if NK can't launch a nuke, they have plenty of other deadly wmd's, esp. chemical and biological weapons.

Furthermore, if the Trump Administration was going to do more sanctions......lots more discussions....then imho it wouldn't have put all of those military assets in/near the Korean Peninsula.

I say it's game on. They can say "sanctions and diplomacy" but our govt's actions say otherwise.

Get out your popcorn folks. Things are going to get very bumpy. Soon.

North Korea faces tighter sanctions under Trump strategy

www.bbc.co.uk...

This is the most logical route, the correct route. American military presence close to the Korean peninsula is two-fold. To place pressure on China to do what it can with its influence on Kim Jong-un, and of course, to respond to any actual pre-emptive missile strike coming from North Korea. It has always been that.

All of this will be seen by Jong-un as provocative, and he will feel like a scolded child, seething at being treated by the world as such. Any defiance he shows is his only response to save face. China is the key to North Korea, not Kim Jong-un.

Will Kim Jong-un defy the sanctions...well, I personally think it is most likely, and it is this defiance that will bring a strike upon him. Trump will not allow him to achieve ICBM capability to reach mainland America, and no president can allow North Korea to achieve the technical ability to place a working nuke on any ICBM. Even China would no want this, because it reduces their effective influence on Kim Jong-un.

So, as I expected, deeper sanctions it is. This brings with it a pause in the war rhetoric, a brief respite for the world and for the region. Even China can see that if Kim Jong-un was not in power, American 'Thaad' missiles would not be needed in South Korea.

Now...it's wait and see.

There has been an American military presence on the Korean peninsula for quite some time now. About 30,000 of them. With airplanes and stuff.

Not secret. So much.

But they pack a wallop. The Vinson is sort of redundant.

They've only been there for 65 years, out in the open for everyone to see, patrolling the DMZ etc.

Indeed so. I was referring to the current 'hyper news' of the Carl Vinson and the sub. personally, I think it was business as usual for the 7th fleet members who do actually patrol those waters normally.

Without making light of everybody's concerns regarding this round of antagonism between America and North Korea, it is looking like Trump is showing to the world that he is not to be taken as being predictable. This was a situation well over-hyped.
