The fatal shooting of Tywan Anderson, 23, in the 1300 block of South Fairfield Avenue, half a block north of Mount Sinai Hospital, marked the only fatality among 29 people who were shot from Saturday to Sunday morning, officials said.

And it's only going to get worse from here. Spring is here, the weather is warmer and people are getting out more. That means more fights, more shootings, more deaths. I have no idea how to fix the violence problem in Chicago. It's not a gun problem. Take the guns and the people who want to hurt each other will still find a way. Bats, bricks or knives, they'll still find a way.

It even sounds like some of these were just random shootings. Folks being shot, because someone wanted to shoot somebody and they happened to be it.

A 27-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were sitting near the shoreline about 10:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Fort Dearborn Drive when they heard gunshots and realized they were hit, Chicago police said.

Like I said, I don't have a solution. Stricter gun laws? Good luck with that. Illinois, especially Chicago, already has some of the strictest in the nation and look what good that's done. More cops? Hell, Illinois is broke, billions in debt and can't afford it. National Guard patrolling the streets? Look for a firefight every night and bodies stacking up even faster. Some would just take that as a challenge.

I don't know....I just don't know.

I'm glad you don't think more fun laws will solve it, they have some of the strictest fun laws in the country.

They're in debt because Chicago hands out too much free money to people who choose not to work. That's how they got in this predicament in the first place.

We need more opportunity for people who abide by the law. I don't understand why after anyone becomes a criminal they lose the right to vote. I don't understand why people are asked if they've ever been arrested on a job application. How can anyone become a law abiding citizen if they can't get a real job?????????

We need to fight poverty. We need more legal opportunities for people in cities to become law abiding citizen with good wages. Money talks, everything else is BS.

I disagree. Like many cities Chicago is having problems because Wall Street is creating problems with exotic financial instruments:

"Is Wall Street Making a Killing off Cities’ Debt?"

nextcity.org...

There are laws that enslave men and there are laws that set them free. We need to get Wall Street under control before they completely destroy our country with exotic debt instruments.

The state of Illinois hands out money like it's free. Huge bonuses, salaries and pensions to state employees, [ thank the crooked Union bosses for that one ] that pay twice what other states would pay for the same job. I live in a very small town in Central Illinois, population around 2700 and the lowest paid cop here makes 76k a year. The top patrol cop, who's been here the longest, makes 100k plus some seriously good benefits/insurance. Don't ask me what they do to earn that. I've lived here 16 years and have only seen them pull people over a handful of times. We also have nice new patrol cars, a very, very nice new Dodge Ram truck for a patrol vehicle and all the toys you could want.........in a town of 2700.
Oh...and our local taxes are insane, by the way. Wonder where all that goes..

I am never, ever for new gun laws. We have plenty and they've nibbled us to death for long enough.

I am not going to dig up the links but.... Chicago was picked as a major distribution city for the Cartel ran gangs and the drug business a long time ago simply because of the population density and the restrictive gun laws. It used to be only the gang bangers, cops, and the Cartels had the guns....

Some initiations into gangs are go rob and kill someone to show us you are worthy.. Which was taken right out of the Spartan hand book.

Would it be fair to suggest that Chicago is to America what Aleppo is to Syria?

Or is that being too harsh on Aleppo?

You tryin' to give Aleppo a bad name?

That analogy hits pretty close though.

Here's a couple of things that really stuck out to me....

A little more than an hour earlier, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the right bicep while walking in the 1100 block of West 18th Street in the Pilsen neighborhood about midnight. The boy was walking on the sidewalk when men walked up to him and opened fire, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
A 15-year-old boy was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle in the 4400 block of North Racine Avenue in the Sheridan Park neighborhood when he was shot in the right cheek about 11:56 p.m. The boy got himself to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

What the hell is a 14 year old kid, doing out walking at midnight? And, a 15 year old had to take himself to the hospital?
Where are the parents?

One of the major problem in cities like Chicago is that there is a problem in the culture. Until these cities find a way to stem the culture where kids are raised fatherless and without structure, these problem will not go away. 2 out of 3 black males are raised in a single parent homes, most likely without a father (highest amongst all races) . Fatherless children have a higher tendency to stray into drugs, crime and gangs (85% of youths in prison are fatherless). Until politicians can come into grip with this social issues faced by boys in their city, the problem will be self perpetuating generation after generation. However, I do not see this happening anytime soon, these cities are filled with politicians who would rather promote a "victim-hood culture" rather than one that promote self-reliance and self-responsibility.

Jobs that pay enough to make doing crimes an afterthought.

I hear a bunch of excuses for young black males killing each other.
These same excuses don't cause any other group to act this way.

The parents? They are likely out gangbanging as well. Most of these kids are children of gang members and dealers. It's a perpetual cycle. Many times the kids are targeted because of a parent's affiliation with a rival gang.

Either way, the area is a lost cause. There is no "fix". You'd essentially have to fund a massive re-education program and force participation on the locals. Adrenaline, money and power are what these kids live for. I have been fave to face with kids in situations like these and can say that it is a very rare instance when one has a true want to get out. Most have seen things the average citizen will never be introduced to, and at a VERY young age.

They are taught that this is the only way from the beginning. If taught this from birth, the chances of changing that mindset are slim. Even when re-educated, their abilities to control their reactions to an event that causes anger are not there as they have been raised to react, and most often react violently.

I agree. But I fixed a Minor mistake in your statement.
Other *blacks who legally immigrated from other countries who know the value of a solid job and have families depending on them, those who work 2 to 3 jobs paying taxes, sending their kids to school. From cabbies, to doctors, not all blacks were taught to kill each other and told they were inferior or were persecuted for know drug or traffic violations making a life of crime the outlet for them in society...

You just clumped every person with a black skin and male together.
Just like when a mental white male go bowling n a rampage does not represent the White population as a whole, and this fact is utterly defended time and time again on ats, only when it's blacks* , everyone are the same and want violence it seems...
