This was posted in reference to Gryphon66 telling someone above to "shoo" because he (or she) thought that previous poster was off-topic

But this is? Pot meet kettle. As to topic, it shouldn't surprise anyone there are people who would protest the attempt of America to hold a despot (not the rapper for those of you who don't care about world events) accountable for using weapons of mass destruction on his own people while ignoring the use of weapons of mass destruction by said despot. If you think this will lead to WWIII, you are mistaken. Leaders like Putin under conequences. You should be way more concerned about events in N. Korea and Iran, both politically (former) and ideological (latter).

What's even more chilling is how this all came to be. Think about it this way. A cloud of sarin gas is unleashed in a remote part of Syria; the locals with the help of local doctors release the idea to the world that Assad's Syrian Air Force bombed them with a sarin gas bomb.

Next morning the NYT headlines "Assad Gas Bombs Syrian Civilians" as "fact". CNN picks it up and broadcasts it as "fact". The next day, tomahawk missles are fired at Syrian base.

Same scenario happened in 2013 when NYT made same assertion and had to walk it back when it was shown that "in fact" the rebels actually shot off the gas missle bomb. But that incident prompted Assad caving into the UN and with the Russians help, they divested themselves of their chemical bomb stocks. And that was done with independent observers and Kerry announced Syria chemical free.

I am waiting for an independent report that substantiates the actual origin of this latest attack. I'd have wished Trump had done the same. But I'd bet that the Intel Agencies told him Assad did it. The same Intel agencies that backed the Bush claim of WMD's being in Sadaam's arsenal in iraq.

In reality, we are only one NYT/CNN lie or one Intel Agency made up claim from WW3!

whats your point?
are you saying those headlines played a part in trumps decision to drop bombs?

what i think is chilling is less than 3 days after is happened trump was dropping bombs.
that is chilling to me

wasnt there an investigation into the attack before he dropped the bombs?

nope. there wasnt...that investigation is going to happen now.

bomb. then investigate.
got it

The US called Moscow and told them they were going to do it. They have a deal. Neither of them will do a rogue attack in Syria.

yeah that deconfliction line was established in 2015.......hmm no "russian collusion" then?

We'll see.

This was a message. It had to be sent, and the weakest link in the chain right now is Syria. It was the safest place to send that message. Simply put, the message was, "We mean what we say. We are no longer led by Obama."

Note that we hit an airbase in Syria, just one of six or seven, and it had Russian troops there. We did, of course, give those troops fair warning with enough time to move.

Note that Trump struck the base at the same time he was having supper with the Chinese leader. "How are those dumplings, Mr. Xi? By the way, I've just fired 60 missiles at Syria. Do try those chicken feet. And what are we going to do about Lil' Kim in North Korea again?"

Both Russia and China have been causing problems through their clients and getting away with it because we have been "leading from behind" and making red lines that swiftly get redrawn as soon as they crossed. Unfortunately, something like this was going to have to happen in order for anyone to take our words seriously.

At this point, we will see where it now goes.

To begin with, no time is a good time to panic.

...And the president doesn't really do so much. The president signs things into law that were written by others. The president approves of actions and activities that were conjured and planned for and done by other people.

The President doesn't do anything that wasn't going to get done before he ever showed up, especially in Trump's case, the worst part of that is he would be happy to take credit for something he had nothing to do with like any other business douche would, Trump hasn't been in office long enough to affect anything but fickle markets and similar things that would have done what they were going to do regardless of who is holding the office.

Trump couldn't be a much worse choice for the position though. I really honestly think sexism had more to do with the downfall of Clinton than anything else, and racism has a lot to do with why so many consider Obama to be the devil incarnate.

Trump is the President out of spite....

The president isn't the problem here, the problem here is stupid facking American's and the banks and corporations and businesses that rule them from the shadows without their realizing it out of profound and utter ignorance of anything further ahead of them than their hood ornament, and an attention span of an average gold-fish.

If elections made any difference they would figure out some way to not let you vote at all.

Yes, I think the reports influenced Trump's decision.

And yes, that's my point.......no verification, no investigation before action was taken.

This is how things can go horribly wrong!

There is no logical reason for a panic. If WW3 begins you are good as dead. ICBMs would be seen from all different parts of the world. WW3 means the end of us all. What's the point of ruling over a radiated rock in space? We work for them and believe it or not they need us alive. Besides there are way efficient ways to reduce the population. A manufactured biological virus, nanaobots in your bloodstream, poison, ordinance that leaves the infrastructure intact but kills all the humans and many more scenarios.

It too puzzled me as to what can be the real game a foot.

A bombed out destitute America serves no purpose to any country. We are only valuable as long as we are spending money that we don't have.

What would Syria gain by killing its own civilians and children?

I think we need to stop drinking the Kool-Aid and think for ourselves for a second or two.

When it looks like we are playing a Zero-sum game, then we need to factor in the marginal utility.

When an Islamic rule (theocracy) is involved then it does not matter who initiated the weapon(s) of mass distraction…all must be made to capitulate...

The region is too unstable and requires America to cut off every head of every snake and do what must be done…

For reference, see Japan and Germany...and had Truman not been a typical progressive fool then Korea would be a unified democratic republic as well…not a rogue nation about to start a nuclear war(A situation my hero SCAP General Douglas MacArthur predicted this exact situation when he said within 50 years North Korea would gain the ability to split the atom and terrorize the free world… Truman, in typical democrat fashion, fired him)

It is America's moral duty to spread our Exceptionalism and virtue throughout the globe with sword or light...
I leave the choice of method to those who will be soon be made to socially evolve and embraced the tenants of the inherent morality and egalitarianism of the high west…

If Russia and its skeleton ruling party of failed Soviet communists gets in our way then we will once again bring them to their knees through economic sanctions…
If sanctions don't work I would be happy to dust off old stethoscope with my wife and we happily return...

Though I doubt my cats and child will agree ahah

That has to be the more arrogant and ignorant piece of BS I have read this month on ATS. I don’t even know where to start pointing out everything wrong in your statement......I don’t even know if there is a point? The amount of ignorance displayed at politics, History and geopolitical situations are so big they must be entrenched. In fact anyone that quotes “Merican exceptionalism” probably cant be reasoned with as it’s a fundamental logical fallacy in it self.

I honestly think that the government thinks that the only way to fix the collapsing global economy is to have a war.

WW2 had a more positive effect on the economy than "The new Deal" did, just think about it.

The most dangerous thing is to react to the news you see on TV or the internet, because it has happened several times that there were reactions to what was supposedly going on elsewhere in the world, with those supposed events being found to be fabricated or twisted and presented in a skewed fashion for the sake of affecting public opinion toward going into conflicts and military operations.

Different time. Different people. Different Dreams.

People back then had nothing but their dreams, drive, ambition, and determination. They valued what little they had, and were willing to fight and die for what they worked so hard to earn. They valued home, hearth, family, country, and dreamed of passing a legacy on to their children.

Too many young people today have been handed everything. They think they are entitled, and the magic words "I want", are the keys to the kingdom. They value things. Items that identify them for a second, and then quickly discard them for the the next thing they are told will make them desirable, enviable. They aren't aware that the Star machine broke a long time ago, and the race for getting their stars upon thars, is a futile race that never ends, until it does.

You are not going to see these young people signing up to go off to war. They may be willing to send off the greedy old folks, that they feel are useless anyway, but it won't take long for them to realize their mistake. Nothing left to do after you have killed the goose that laid the golden eggs but to cook it.

All it takes to 'smell chlorine' is to hit an agricultural chemicals store .

That was a "rice" statement wasn't it?

We were able to get the Syrian government to voluntarily and verifiably give up its chemical weapons stockpile.

www.weeklystandard.com...

How could there be chemical weapons when it was verified none were there? Son of a nutcracker!

Every farm has a chem store , and swimming pools
plus , the building industry uses and the water supply works.
Nothing much is verifiable easily in a warzone either way , and it was rebel held ground not Assad's country
