Everytime I see a debate about how much of a response we need to make to some provocation in the middle east my mind always flashes back to an episode of West Wing right after 9/11.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

We can debate on who is evil and who is good, but we can agree that doing nothing is not a solution.
When Russia can veto any resolution condemning Syria how is it going to be effective at ending the conflict? Even and abstention on Russia's part could bring some progress.

A few hours ago Russia just pulled out of the memorandum that guaranteed safe passage to US jets in Syria.

They also have broken off all military cooperation as of a few hours ago.

You really don't see an issue there?

I really don't see an issue here. Putin is not dumb enough to think he could take down our planes. EVER!

I'm with you Haman, I honestly don't understand how people don't see the implications involved given Moscow's response on the issue.

American jets will be shot down in response, it's almost guaranteed.

Vector you really need to calm down. NO ONE is shooting down US planes, nor will they!

America should keep flights over Syria, and our involvement in Syria, to a minimum. The best solution is to take out the country's leader. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said yesterday that a multi-country coalition is being formed to do just that.

Wow, thread is growing!

I already said earlier that if this had to be done, it was done perfectly. No warning, no posturing, just take out the offending entity (in this case an air base) and be done with it.

The opposite..

Full notice, full warning..The pentagon gave Russia/Assad full notice to evacuate men and equipment.

Posturing was exactly what this was.

First you were in a full blown meltdown over killing Syrians and starting a new regional war, now your angry that these soldiers didn't die and that this was meant to send a clean and clear message against attacks on civilians?

Look through my responses in this thread and you will see I agree with you completely.

I'm worried about the future implications though. Russia themselves may not shoot down US jets, but I would be willing to bet S-400's will become commonplace in Syrian government controlled areas.

Breaking that safe-passage memorandum is a big deal. What happens when it happens....Pardon me while I move to the mountains.

You all are missing the fact that there is no evidence that this was Assad. He had no reason to be that stupid, knowing there would be ramifications. This is a false flag or a rebel attack.

Proud to be a nation of agressors and warmongers that attack countrys with little or no evidence in support of ISIS offensives.

No, it wasn't. Think what you want. This was an unprecedented move. I would be willing to bet within 2 weeks an American jet is downed in Syria.

I'll take that bet.

Trump's long term plans don't involve Syria.

Russia now owns Syria with an excuse to no longer cooperate with the US in Syria.

It looks like a win for Russia and they didn't have to sacrifice a single Assad/Russian Soldier or operable aircraft to get it.

US Operations in Syria will decrease if not cease. It's Putin's ballgame now..He has men on the ground all-over and the USA can no longer do airstrikes without knowing where they are.

It's cease operations or full war with Russia...And Trump is not going to war with Russia.

Nope most of us can see it quite cleary it was not Assad.

Its only the MSN and brain dead Trumptards that are blind and refusing to see the truth.

It was Assad..

He is a sociopath...Chemical Weapons are cheap and he is tired of turning perfectly good buildings into rubble..Chemical weapons save billions in real-estate. It's like fumigating a house to him..He is a full on sociopath.

Today, most foreign leaders are happy, many people in Syria are happy, most in Congress are happy.

Trump is being praised for the decisive action from all over the world.
The people not happy are mostly those you would expect, such as Iran.
Russia is not happy. Isn't that what the Trump haters wanted? Russia knows that Trump is not in his back pocket.

America is back! And I am proud to be an American with president Trump.

And all that happiness is reliant on the theory that Assad is responsible for an attack on his own civilians using chemical weapons. Considering there's been no conclusive proof of this happening, would you and all these people still be so happy if it was soon revealed, without a doubt, that it was in fact the rebels/ISIS responsible for the chemical weapons?

But let's not even go there right? Much easier to just ignore that distinct possibility and continue being so damn proud and happy!!

There is no PUBLIC evidence it was Assad. That could make a difference.

Also, who is to say that the civilians killed were the actual targets? It could be that the rebels/isis/bad guys/whatever were one block west and the pilot targeted the wrong house?

The fog of war can cause targeting errors easily.

I think Trump is a malfunctioning, overgrown angry oompa-loompa.

I also know enough about Assad pre and post war to know the Chemical Weapons were him.

President Obama had the same solid intelligence. Simple satellite surveillance tracked the aircraft from that base down to the minute the gas was dispersed. Not complicated.

You don't need to be a Trumptard to understand who and what Assad is.

Once again WITHOUT EVIDENCE, IGNORING INVESTIGATIONS, LISTENING TO THE NEWS MEDIA, America is marching to war against an enemy they have no qualms with - fantastic.

This is absolute PROOF that your vote is pointless. This is 100% directly in contradiction to the 'morals' Trump pretended to possess when campaigning. This is why the world is so full of hatred and violence - even the leaders are dishonest a-holes. What makes this worse is that people will somehow justify this. Violence needs to STOP, please, we've had enough! This just makes me want to withdraw entirely from this monstrous society. People are insane, losing their minds and coming to conclusions BEFORE investigations. People are now averse to facts, they hate the truth.

I don't fear as I've been told to watch for this.

This is terrible, just terrible. Was this even ran through the congress? The globalist push-back for our 'wrong decisions' (Trump, Brexit) is about to get ugly. They're going to teach us a lesson about who 'owns' us.

Trump had so, so much potential, he even had the people behind him - at least the sane ones who weren't burning cities. And he does this..... This is our world now....... Enjoy it.

If we cease operations over this, then as bad as it is, good.

If we don't, we no longer have a guarantee of safe passage in Syrian airspace.

So, I'll clarify the bet. If we continue an air campaign in Syria following this event, I'll bet a US aircraft is shot down very soon.

Mate i don't think Trump has any long term planning whatsoever.

what struck me the most is he said quote "[assad] killed beautiful children in Syria"

maybe the kids in Yemen, Iraq are ugly. thats why no one asks any questions?

www.presstv.ir...

them ugly kids in yemen

Bull# ! Yes he is a sociopath but he is not stupid.

He was winning the war, he had full Russian support and the USA before the alleged attacj had backed off.

Why risk destruction and international intervention over buildings?

The rewards where not worth the risk!
