I know all about how to correctly interact with customers and what to say and not to say. The point is that this guy should have known better. You admit as such, but he said it anyways. So CLEARLY he wasn't smart enough to keep his mouth shut in that regard, so why are we giving him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't being serious with his remarks?

Maybe HATED the boss and owner so they staged what is akin to performance art..

Still more likely than a server thinking they had the authority to check papers and refuse service..

Bro, I've worked restraurants myself, lived in the victorian section eight courts, trust in that there are some pretty dumb people out there. I'm Hispanic as well.

Or a joke that went horribly wrong and the buisness wasn't gonna try and defend... Say he was really checking for age for cocktails and as a joke said " I gotta make sure y'all are from here.." Attempting for it to be viewed as a silly, sarcastic joke..but then it blew up...

I have seen this happen more times than I can count in the medical profession.

Some people just can't deliver a joke, and some people just can't read people well enough to know if a silly off-handed remark will fly or not.

As a Case Manager, I developed a reputation for being able to deal with the angry, the crochety, and the hostile customers. I had a pretty good barometer for gauging who you could tease down, and who was best handled with caution or decorum. I had a trainee that darn near got fired for attempting to deal with a hostile family the way she had seen me jokingly calm a hostile family during her training. It just didn't fly and the family wanted to see blood, her blood.

I too have had times that I misjudged a person, or the person just was extremely resistant to calming or compromise, in situations like that I would try to bring in a different mediator, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. You can't please all the people all the time and sometimes you are just going to run into a personality clash.

I doubt that someone that depends on tips for a living would deliberately offend a table of ladies out to have a good time. I agree with many others here on that one. From the article, no one else seemed to take offense at the request until one of the ladies may an issue of it, and then pushed it towards their agenda.

It also wouldn't surprise me if this was orchestrated by the Carrillo girl and the waiter. Could have been a friend with the same views and wanted to make a statement.

I still find it REALLY odd the name of the waiter has not popped up anywhere. That is typically the very first thing that comes out as crazed people search for it so they can harass.

I can't remember the last time a story like this came out that all involved were not publicly outed. This waiter must have either no social media presence or some serious internet kung-fu or possibly doesn't even exist. If he exists then it appears someone is really trying hard to not have the name get out which would suggest connections to one of the people in the story to me.

Hell...crazier things have been done to further a cause...remember the BLM poop on the wall story that turned out to be a hoax by a BLM leader?

Trump being president doesn't change the fact ALL restaurants will fire you for refusing anyone service..

I specifically remember when all the corporate joints put out statements telling all employees that they would be fired for refusing to serve alcohol to pregnant women..

Refusing to take a table for any reason is instant termination.

If you refuse to serve a homosexual at chic fila you will be instantly fired..

That is what makes it hard to believe..

There isn't enough context to make an accurate judgment. We ATLEAST need to hear the waiters side of the story. Especially knowing how the media likes to misconstrue things to fit their narrative.

Keep in mind, joke or otherwise, what he said was VASTLY inappropriate, and even if it was truly a joke if it had been overheard by his manager he would have likely been fired on the spot without the costumer complaining.

No I said no one who thinks they can refuse service or to take tables would not last a week as a server.. plenty of racists and other uists wait tables... but they all know they can't be racist to their tables and not be fired..

I promise that there are plenty of things that would result in instant termination everywhere that employees from any industry do anyways, because they think they can get away with it.

By the way, looking at your statement logically, you have a harder time being right than I do. All I'm saying is, "Some of the total wait staff in the country are capable of being racist assholes in lieu of protecting their job". You are saying, "None of the total wait staff would infringe on their job to be a racist".

All I have to do is produce 1 person that proves me right to be right; you have to rely on the whole country thinking like you do. Logically, my approach makes more sense. Plus I'm not sure why you find it so hard to beleive that a human will do something. From what I've seen of the world, if its physically possible then you will find a human who will attempt it.

It's not like I'm saying that this case represents a larger trend of waiters refusing service to Latinos or anything.
