It comes down to the mindset of the individual poor person on a case-by-case basis. I don't actually hate anybody, but I have less sympathy for a poor person who has a giant chip on their shoulder, blames every problem of theirs on somebody else or tries to take advantage of kind people for deceptive reasons, compared with a poor person who has mainly made some bad life choices (which we all have done and do), wants to escape the cycle they are in if given the opportunity to do so and who when receiving your aid will positively benefit from it, then I do feel a greater sense of sympathy for these people.

On your second point I know this is very true.. here's a story you can appreciate . I grabbed a Still weed eater that was clearly broken (I'm a jet engine mechanic lol) because I figured I could fix it and use to replace my cheap weed eater brand or maybe use the parts... talk about loosing his damn mind, I argued with the guy for about 1/2 an hour and nearly went to blows with him because of it... he threw it away, for crying out loud.. for him it was all about someone getting something free, for me it was about not letting go waist.. I didn't need it, I am a simple person, I don't need for much.. and it was an apartment building so didn't know who ask nor sure if was even his.. but I have heard many stories similar, even people calling for it to be illegal (probably is in some places)... what sense does that even make? You clearly have no use for it and determined it's of no value to you, why would you care?
Even if I were to sell it, so what.
I don't think it's as much about a gap, he didn't make me feel that way.. I could have easily put him in his place had he went there.. I think it's the I work for it you should to, too stupid to understand that it wasn't about getting something for free at all to me but even if it were, like I said above, who cares?
I don't throw anything like that away, if I can't fix it I will sell it or give away for parts.. or curb alert it.. wife hates that lol I keep a lot of crap for parts. Another Toxic mindset that helps nothing.

The mind set you carry with you while admirable probobly steams from a time where there was rather less mass unemployment than there is in this day of age.

Fact of the matter is that if our species continue to breed as they do, and our jobs are replaced by technology a time will come where most manual labor is carried out by machines.

Thus our respective governments are going to have to resort to implementing some form of universal credit regarding a significant percentage of our populations or let mass unemployment starvation and deprivation take its course.

Plus side is that we will be able to concentrate our future generations towards employment in the arts and sciences, but not everyone wishes to pursue such careers in those areas, suppose that leaves the leisure and entertainment industry's or the military.

Point is rather a lot of our future jobs are going the way of the dinosaurs, and a solution does not seem to be on the cards.

A lot of:

"I don't hate the poor BUT..."

Which means, yes -- you do hate the poor.

You have somehow simply found ways to justify it.

Why do people resent poor people who (supposedly) game the system when the poor are the result of the rich who do?.

...Maybe because the in betweeners are closer to being poor than they would like to admit...

It sucks getting doggy doo on your foot when ya gots no shoes on...

The richest people in America have convinced people to hate those who have even less than they do.

It keeps the focus and heat off the wealthy and keeps the lower classes fighting among one another.

It's a magician's trick. Keep the poor plebeians fighting, instead of realizing it is the wealthiest at the top screwing everyone beneath them over.

The same thing as focusing on undocumented immigrants instead of focusing on those who hire them.

...Who once again are the wealthy...

Exactly.

Historically, Republicans and business owners love the cheap labor provided by immigrants and undocumented workers. It's sort of an unspoken policy of their platform. For unbridled crony capitalism to make maximum profit, hiring cheap immigrants under the table was a key component.

In reality, if there wasn't a demand in the USA for undocumented immigrant workers by business owners...immigrants wouldn't want to come here.

The fact that there are opportunities for them is what makes them come here. Cut off the incentive, watch the immigration numbers drop.

Oh. Wait. They have been. Illegal border crossing by Mexicans has been slowing and even reversing in recent years, but hey -- that doesn't really matter because it doesn't FEEL like it.

Be careful.

People who can think are generally referred to as liberals, and I am beginning to think it's not a compliment to be called that...

...Not that I care so much, but some do...

People who think = threat.

People who are smart = threat.

Intellectualism is becoming a danger to American society. Soon scientists and all of America's best and brightest will have to go into hiding and eventually leave America for other countries.

I am not kidding. There already is a sizeable number of scientists on the deep web hanging out and exchanging research.

I lived in Florida for a decade after being raised in Madison WI.

Believe me, I understand exactly what you mean.

People fear what they don't understand, and people who don't understand much are afraid of almost everything.

...And we have the entire southern half of the U.S....

IMO there's a lot forgotten when aiming it as the few citizens who play the system and not placing blame on the corporate welfare that is seemingly accepted throughout.

It's not really "a few". I used to work in a big housing project, low income housing, where the majority of people were on welfare. Long term welfare recipients basically fall into three categories:

1) - Disabled. Quite understandably can't work.

2) - Poor family planning. Got pregnant too early in life or had more kids than they can raise by working. They have no practical way to leave the system (although I have seen many who work, and are probably trying to leave it.)

This can include dead beat dads, who owe too much in child support, and would not be able to subsist on what would be left of their paycheck if they worked.

3) - "Discouraged Workers"

That third group is the most solve-able. And also where hate/love should probably be directed.

The systemic problem is that it's nearly impossible to get a decent job with no recent work history. So a person who spends more than a year or two on welfare is un-hire-able. They also may lose confidence in their own ability to do good enough work, and fear they will be embarrassed or ashamed if they try and fail.

However, also, the welfare system is a good hideout for criminals. Some criminals are making a good living doing something illegal, but they can't report any of that income to the IRS, so they go on welfare so there will be some explanation for where they're getting all those nice things they keep buying. These people utterly wreck the neighborhood for all the other welfare recipients. And simultaneously give welfare recipients a bad name by appearing to live well on welfare. (Because they're not living just on welfare, of course.)

I don't think most Americans hate poor people. I think the hate is aimed to the people that game the system. We can see it in everyday life. Unfortunately we don't see the big companies doing it directly. Neither example is ok. I was in a store in Wisconsin, a lady in front of me had a huge shopping cart of groceries, all junk food. What stood out most was the case of snickers and case of redbull. She paid in foodstamps, how do I know? The display actually said foodstamps. This was at Woodmans grocery. I don't know about you but I don't think it is right for anyones tax dollars to go to redbull! That is where the anger comes in. People see stuff like that and they are busting their tail for ramen every night. It is easy to be angry at that lady and not the corporations doing it on a much larger scale. I worked for a big pharma company, that is truly the meaning of greed. I morally had a problem working there, but it paid well so most people stayed, I did not!

She might be a single mom, trying to work 3 part time jobs.

That Red Bull might be the only way she keeps awake for her shifts.

Hatred of the poor is a species trait that is shared across the animal kingdom. Its not that they're poor, per se. Its that they are a "have not". They are frowned on by the Gods.

Even in a yard, chicken roosts will tend to pick on the same chickens. And they do it mercilessly. A wolf with an injury is treated less than kindly.

Poor = weak, and weak is something that humans tend to dislike. Not unusual among animals on Earth.

Depends through what you mean by weak, a poor up bringing generally instills measure of strength into people.

Rich people seldom have to fight for anything other than meaningless bull crap.

Stick a poor person in the ring with a rich twat and i know who my money would be on.

But i might be degeneration into some form of "Bum Fights" now. LoL

Poor people have to seek help from others. That is weakness as seen by people who dislike poor people.

I don't have a problem with anyone that is poor, I'm poor because I pay all my bills. If you want to be poor that's your choice, but don't expect me to give you food, shelter, money, drugs, liquor, friendship, whatever.
My problem is with anyone who is in this country illegally. Everyone has to follow the law period. If you are here illegally, take what you have earned and get out, go back to where you came from and do it legally, if you don't want to take your stuff and leave voluntarily, I believe immigration should arrest you and deport you with nothing.

Unless of course they just take what they want from others of greater means, that's not weak, if rather illegal.

But that's why crime and violence will continue to increase while the gap between the haves and the have not gets wider.

Point of fact they should be thankful the poor seek help, because when they stop seeking help they will be coming for there share of the pie i imagine.

And down that road lies destruction, class war and mass genocide. They wont be happy to eat cake forever.

Again my monies on the poor and disenfranchises, we have the numbers.

There seems to be a lot of hate directed at the poor in America. As in if you can't make it in this country without help it's your own fault. You would think we would all work together to make things better for everyone. Instead we have a society where everyone is afraid someones going to take something away from them. Everywhere I look there is hate and resentment.

My income is less then $11k a year but I have no problem giving a dollar or two to the homeless man on the corner. My thinking has always been I'm better off then he is at least I have somewhere warm to be.

You sound to me like one of theses homeless guys with the signs......that have the limp down. The hurt leg limp. Have seen several at the same corner with the limp and the old "anything will help" deal.

And let me tell you bro if you had anything worth taking someone out here is always looking to take it.

Up the road here there is a quadriplegic guy that works in the Home Depot with a special chair, he works the floor......and down the road are a bunch of "limper" less that a 1000 feet away. Limping. Always limping.
