Oh my word.

Social Ownership + Democracy ≠ North Korea

In fact, that is what we are with a lot of things (police, infrastructure, military, etc). Democratic socialism just leans farther in that direction than capitalism does.

Calling North Korea socialist is only fair if we call Somalia "small government".

Good god. Paying taxes towards something doesn't mean you own it.

North Korea is socialist, as described by their constitution, their economy, and as lived in their day-to-day.

This is the main issue.
It's been funneled into a two party system.
And most people don't even understand that democrats and republicans are pretty much right wing political parties now.
Especially those who label themselves as liberals!

Boy aren't you confused? Have you not noticed that the Conservatives call everyone that disagrees with them "Leftists"?

Yeah I was having a hard time trying to find the difference between Hillary and most of the Republican candidates.

What I was getting at is that people who put themselves into the 'left' categories, seem to think the democrats were their champion of left ideologies. But they aren't. Hilary had some pretty conservative policies, it's just that she wanted to keep some of the more liberal ones to help with social programs in the country.

Predictable and sad. When will people finally understand that ideological greed is just as corrupt and even more so corrosive than the monetary sort?

Oh bull, the US is one of the only developed country that doesn't follow basically Sanders-esque policies.

It's the right wing on this topic that are on the wrong side of history.

Our country as a result of NOT investing heavily in health, economic, environmental, and educational justice, is slipping behind other developed countries on everything from health measures to social mobility to education outcomes.

The data and economic research is all there....

The research supports that such policies have greater dollar for dollar returns to society than do the policies you guys propose. Your policies have failed, going back to Reagan.

North Korea is a dictatorship- like Cuba and Venezuela and most other countries conservatives call socialist to try to tarnish socialism.

Europe is socialist.

That's price of freedom. Nothing but yourself is stopping you from investing in any of those areas. So why don't you? But needing a government to demand you do it is even worse.

Too bad for them, everyone else isn't interested in their civil war.

You should tell that to the right people.

You know, those rock-throwing, sucker-punching, property-defacing, rioting retard friends of yours.

Since the election of Donald Trump, the Democratic Socialist Party has gained lots of new members.

According to a story, they have tripled their dues paying membership.

Could be momentum left over from the Bernie Sanders Campaign.

And the DSP seems to be quite anti-Trump.

Democratic Socialists of America Triples Membership Since Trump

Membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has tripled since Donald Trump’s election in November to over 19,000 paying members, a report from the Los Angeles Times reveals.

The group, founded in 1982, is now the largest socialist organization in the United States and recently published a “Resistance Rising” strategy to combat the Trump administration.

“On November 8, voters in the United States narrowly elected an openly racist, misogynist and nativist candidate for president,” the organization’s website reads. “We must understand ‘Trumpism’ as a cross-class white nativist alliance; the median family income of the 62 percent of white voters who supported Trump was higher than that of Hillary Clinton voters and wealthier than Bernie Sanders’ primary base.”

19k members now according to the article. For some perspective, for my state representative (not us representative) district, there were over 40k voters this past election. Hell, there are cities in the middle class of nowhere Alaska that have higher populations. Not really what I would call momentum...

Oh, just be honest.

It's not needing the government to demand they do it. It's needing the government to force everyone else to do it so they aren't the only ones.

After all, I self-invest in my own health care all the time. The problem for them is that I never invested in theirs while I was at it.

College kids, anarchists, & agent provocateurs? They're not my friends. You can't deny the Right, your party of choice I guess, loves to warn (Dream) of a civil war and LOVE talking about watering the tree of liberty with blood.

It's true. It's gotten to the point where those who want to eradicate poverty want to do so because they cannot stand the sight of it, and not for reasons of compassion.

You can book a tour through Beijing. I wanted to see it. Don't ask about their dogs though.

Really? You went cause you wanted to see it? I do find that amazing because it all seems so dangerous to go in the first place. I wanna go to the Middle East because it's rich in history but F that! Not in my life time.

You do understand that we spend more per pupil on education than pretty much all other developed countries and have a nearly 100% socialized public education system ... right?

We spend wayyyy more on war and the MIC. If what you say is true then we are not getting our monies worth since the US doesn't even make the top 10 list in education.

You have a guide, so it is unlikely nothing will happen so long as you follow the rules. I'm not American, however. I'm sure "Yankees" (as they call them) will have a bit more uneasiness.

As for the middle east, I've been to Iran, Isreal, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, post-911 and Iraq war, and all without significant issue. A smile can work wonders.
