In fact, that is what we are with a lot of things (police, infrastructure, military, etc). Democratic socialism just leans farther in that direction than capitalism does.

Calling North Korea socialist is only fair if we call Somalia "small government".

North Korea is socialist, as described by their constitution, their economy, and as lived in their day-to-day.

What I was getting at is that people who put themselves into the 'left' categories, seem to think the democrats were their champion of left ideologies. But they aren't. Hilary had some pretty conservative policies, it's just that she wanted to keep some of the more liberal ones to help with social programs in the country.

The group, founded in 1982, is now the largest socialist organization in the United States and recently published a “Resistance Rising” strategy to combat the Trump administration.

“On November 8, voters in the United States narrowly elected an openly racist, misogynist and nativist candidate for president,” the organization’s website reads. “We must understand ‘Trumpism’ as a cross-class white nativist alliance; the median family income of the 62 percent of white voters who supported Trump was higher than that of Hillary Clinton voters and wealthier than Bernie Sanders’ primary base.”

19k members now according to the article. For some perspective,for my state representative (not us representative) district, there were over 40k voters this past election. Hell, there are cities in the middle class of nowhere Alaska that have higher populations. Not really what I would call momentum...

It's not needing the government to demand they do it. It's needing the government to force everyone else to do it so they aren't the only ones.

After all, I self-invest in my own health care all the time. The problem for them is that I never invested in theirs while I was at it.

You do understand that we spend more per pupil on education than pretty much all other developed countries and have a nearly 100% socialized public education system ... right?

You have a guide, so it is unlikely nothing will happen so long as you follow the rules. I'm not American, however. I'm sure "Yankees" (as they call them) will have a bit more uneasiness.

As for the middle east, I've been to Iran, Isreal, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, post-911 and Iraq war, and all without significant issue. A smile can work wonders.
