ATS intentionally subverted by members supporting political/Trump/Clinton/etc threads?!

...I am already seeing areas developing that may not get proper coverage because talk will set off a new round of shooting only.

For example.....what ever side you are on, you should be able to see that the insurance firms are still firmly in charge of the health care thingy and it never really was a partisan issue at its core.

Uh huh. Like health coverage for astronauts, automation, robotics, etc. Threads twisted to be "Us agin Them," Democrats v/s Republicans, yada, yada. Way too boring and stupid.

Yup.

Like, say, a thread about going to Mars infected with comments about Russians and an Obama initiated Muslim outreach program. *eye roll*

I don't think that all of the (political) comments in non -olitical threads are intentional subversion, but rather a natural reaction to the volatile political climate that has infected pretty much...everything. I do think, however (and it has been somewhat confirmed with some members) that there are members, both long term and new, who do have an agenda to push, which is evident by intentionally ignoring evidence that refutes the propaganda while continuing to deliberately push said propaganda even when confronted; or, constantly posting anything that jabs the opposing side.

They like to prod and rile people up, which is why I mostly ignore those threads. It's intentional instigation.

BUT, this drives traffic to ATS, adds new members, and creates revenue, which is why admin allows it to continue, IMO.

...and they don't like it, no they don't.

Best go along to get along.

I know. ...Have writer friends who used to scan ATS for script ideas and dialogue, story and article ideas etc.. They thought it was just great - smart, informative, imaginative. Now, no.

They say it's totally dried up. Nothing to say, nothing to see.

Plus ca change...

Yes. Too bad nobody is actually discussing anything. They're all just pointing fingers, saying we won, you lost, nyanyanyananana.

Simple, right?

I lurked here at ATS for a couple years before making my first ID in 2005 (I forgot what it was several years later and had to make this one) and have gone years without making a post. During all that time the site has changed a lot, but so have all the rest of us.

Yes, there is more political discussion here these days than there has been in the past. But that's simply a reflection of our culture in general. We are living through one of the most pivotal times in modern political history -- be it Brexit in the UK, the War on Terror globally, or the unlikely rise and victory of Trump.

I'm sure if ATS would have been around in the mid-1970's we would have been inundated with thread after thread relating to Watergate.

I think the theological core of ATS will always be the strange, unexplained, speculative, and my personal favorite -- creepy. There's still plenty of that here. Look at how many 4Chan "alien"
threads there were recently...

I have no doubt that as time goes by ATS will continue to follow the fireflies. One of these days something is going to happen or be disclosed that lands right in the ATS wheelhouse. I want to be here for that.

Because I truly feel, when that happens, we ATS members are going to find ourselves at the epicenter of a New Reality none of us can really imagine right now.

Totally agree. ATS leadership was corrupted long ago. This place is about the bottom line, and if your posts and comments aren't helping the bottom line then they are censured. Anybody who thinks any real or important information would be allowed to stay up on this board are fools. Google is your friend, and your tool to finding out the truth about who is pulling the strings.

I don't agree. That's not "all there is to it" at all. "They" troll non-partisan threads, frame virtually any topic as fundamentally about Republicans versus Dems - and force discussion into Party Politics mode. For or Against. A yes or no poll. If you disagree or want to take the topic further or elsewhere, you're just a Leftie. That's the depth of discussion. [No depth.]

In fact, I'm fed up with politics. And the 2-party system. I have NO respect for either Trump or Hillary. I might have voted for Sanders but he did not run. I did not vote. I remain anti-corporatism.

I've spent the last 14-odd years here being polite, kind and civil. I have posted reams of valuable research and information I know was used for others' profit. I let others think they were cleverly manipulating me into posting about marketable topics and ideas. No more. I am done.

Today, for the first time, I went into a totally juvenile snit. Unfortunately, my frustration is not yet out of my system. If I end up getting banned whilst working out my reactions to the reactionaries, fine. I can live with that.

This was a big year for politics in the US and one could hardly argue that politics of late have been anything less than unusual and worthy of discussion. That having been said, there are always other topics here for those who wish to see them. If not, you and everyone else are free to create them. If you feel there is a shortage of threads on a given subject, start one.

Personally, I think the majority of political threads in the last year have been what ATS is all about - conspiracy. Lets face facts, both sides have claimed some rather interesting things about the other side of the aisle. Whether it be international espionage, debate subterfuge, or any of a vast assortment of scandals of all sizes and sorts, there has been no shortage of conspiracy fuel on ATS.

The way it's headed, I may has as well start going and and hanging out at the pub again, at the least team sports and repetitive drivel has a healthy dose of alcohol to help it down.

I don't drink but that does sound good. ...Thinking about what's in my little cupboard. Some rum, coffee liqueur, Grand Marnier, and oh yeah, ginger beer. Mmmm hmmm.

Thanks for the advice!

ATS is would it should be.
This website has helped me pass the time at work for many years.
I don't remember how I discovered it or even when, but it was long time ago.
At least 10 years.

I liked it then, and I like it now.
I like it.

That's exactly right!

There is only one ATS.

Let ATS be ATS!

facebook and smartphones really changed the tone and attitude of political debate. It was much easier for people to live in an echo chamber and to get "zingers" and talking points to demonize the opposition than is ever has been

it got really personal too.

the "tax and spend democrat" was replaced with "lock her up she murderd 50 people"
the "tax breaks for the rich republican" was replaced with "evil nazi nutjob"

its because they know it works.

hillary got caught with paid trolls, I'm sure they all do it
