what will having knowledge of gnostic and alchemy and other occult stuff to figure out puzzles , how can that possibly assist them?

It's meant to be a unique vetting process for the gifted. So technically, it assists the CIA by removing any possibility that the average person can and will "hack" their way to the source. The symbols found in gnosis or alchemy rely on the individuals correct knowledge and understanding of them. Applying them is where the magic happens. The high ranking esoteric Rosicrucians are known to be "magicians."

I honestly think that 99.9% of people cannot solve these tests.

Cool. I've been reading old Alchemical manuscripts from the 15th- 16th century off and on for the past 5 years or so. The thing that I discovered that may be a help to anyone trying to figure this out, is that a lot of the writings weren't about material sciences at all. The turning lead into gold thing is a spiritual metaphor. For the transformation of the soul. I would imagine back then they had to hide their writings on things of a spiritual nature in what was considered scientific literature at the time, otherwise risk being turned into firewood by the church.

When you read a lot of Alchemical writings with that in mind as a sort of "key" it opens up a whole new world of meaning. Something to think about.

Yep, that was part of it. But a lot of the outside of the norm spiritual thinking people were doing back then that would amount to heresy was also hidden in some of the manuscripts. There's a few that, read with the right key in mind, rival any psychedelic literature produced in the last century.
