The Air Force has quietly deployed a WC-135 Constant Phoenix aircraft to Europe after a small amount of Iodine-131 was detected in Norway, near the Kola Peninsula. It has since been detected in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and France. Iodine-131 has a half life of 8 days, so this points to a recent and ongoing release.

Constant Phoenix is designed to collect air samples, including radioactive particles, and analyze them. It was designed to monitor nuclear testing, by flying through clouds and collecting samples from accessible areas.

No one knows where the radiation is being released from. Iodine-131 is frequently used as a tracer chemical, as well as medical uses. It's also released in a nuclear detonation, but there is no evidence of one having occurred. Levels measured were low, but could be a sign of a nuclear accident.

Reactor leak in a Russian Boomer?

So something happened somewhere?

I hate getting news like this cause it's likely we aren't going to ever know what "just almost happened". I do have one question, is the UK not a part of the monitoring program?

It may not have gotten to the UK yet. France only just reported it.

I'm betting a reactor leak on something. It can't be far from the Peninsula though, do that is a definite possibility.

Some of their ships are in disrepair. Just look at their carrier. Trying to put to sea with out dated and damaged equipment is begging for an accident.

Huh..

2 E6 Sentry aircraft from the us navy..
Call sign JULY10 & MEEK97 have been flying north of here covering the I-80 corridor from Youngstown Ohio to around I-80 well north of Harrisburg Pa. Been watching them go back and forth since 5:30 pm est.
Seen on ADS-B Exchange.. depending on signal strength.

Never seen them in these parts... wonder why, and if it has anything to do with the European counterparts.

Edit: still there now. JULY10 keeps popping in and out. Here's MEEK97..

Edit: Zaphod, MEEK97 "is" JULY10.... same aircraft, just watched it change its Call sign to JULY10. It is now over NE pa headed to NY and now on a linear path out of PA.. so it appears to be a case of the nothings.😊

"The preliminary report states it was first found during week 2 of January 2017 in northern Norway. Iodine-131 was also detected in Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, France and Spain, until the end of January", the official French Institute de Radioprotection et de Süreté Nucléaire (IRSN) wrote in a press release."
Its sad that this news takes so long to be mentioned and it doesnt make for great trust in the powers that be for me
I am in the UK I have my own geiger counter monitor i saw a peak of 44 counts per minute around the 20th of january all the rest of the year its been below 30 cpm s
I wish there was greater transparency with all things nuclear

Why do I have a bad feeling about this?
You guys haven't sent your plane over for just this......not when astra001uk picked it up on his own geiger counter....what's to say this wasn't leaked as a rouse to get your specialist plain over here for another reason?

If it was over the UK in January, and the French only just reported it, and iodine only has 8 days life.......then it's still leaking somewhere and is working westward.......but what do I know

The only purpose for the aircraft is to monitor radiation levels and monitor nuclear testing.

Yes, I understand that about the plane. What I'm saying is...what if this is just a lead up to something far worse...as I tried to point out in my non-scientific way........why is whatever it is still leaking...and we can pretty much cancel out and nuclear test/explosion as satelites will detect them
Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks!

Not an expert or even barely versed in this stuff but it "seems" like a low enough level it could be attributed to maybe a illegal "dump" of medical reactive material?

Wasn't there an issue recently with a French Reactor?

How do you track military aircraft again?

Hmmmm,

Kola peninsula or Novaya Zemyla.

Kola has lots of cold war Era subs moldering away.

NZ was nuclear test area, then dumping ground for who knows what.

Both are east northeast of Norway.
