ATS requires members to sign up with a social network account.

You have to sign up for an ATS account using an account from either,

Google, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook or Linkedin.

Not only that, it also says this,

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Note: You must use the selected social network every time you log into AboveTopSecret.com. Also, AboveTopSecret.com only uses the authentication data and username, provided by the social network you select. We will never access or use any other information for any reason.

You will never? But you can?

Why is there no email sign up?

Why do you require your members to use a social network account that requires identification by telephone nr.?

Well played.......but at what cost.

No. I never log in or out of ATS. Neither do a few 100,000 members worldwide. For months and years at a time...always logged in.

Never used any social site to join. Ever.....not it 7 years so.......?????????????????????

So it must be a new policy. There is no other way to sign up now.

And you really need to read the Ts and Cs you agreed to as a member. What you can and cant post, or links and sites not allowed...how to do this and upload pics, links, videos...and what can get you banned.

Some sites you also cant quote or thread from as they are known HOAX sites.....

Start there.

Welcome. I only needed an email address to sign up.

This must be new. I don't think I had to do that in 2009.

Could be for verification purposes? To make sure you are a real person and not some random loony who just got 20 email addresses to make 20 different accounts? We've had some crazy people join- after all, they let me in!

I wasn't asking for directions. I am asking why I need a verified social network account to use ATS?

You don't see a problem with this?

and what can get you banned.

Not everything that can get you banned is in the T&Cs...

And you don't think this will deter some people from signing up? Like, you know, intelligent people who don't have social network accounts? Or people who don't feel comfortable posting here with their verified social network account following their post behavior on ATS.

It certainly wasn't that difficult in 2007 when I enrolled in ATS. But I notice more and more websites saying that you have to be connected to Google, Facebook, etc.. in order register...or to make a comment. What's the point of this? Anyone know?

So there is now a situation in which older members don't need a social network account to exist here, but new members do?

That's racist.

Must be new,
I have a Google account since they bought you tube and merged accounts, but I refuse to link it to forums.

You must have missed an "other" link.

Maybe ats should refuse to accept linked accounts- keep some of the riff raff out...

Just an email was needed here , a while back members were asked to open twitter accounts and like ATS . Maybe something to do with that . Link to thread below .
www.abovetopsecret.com...

On Twitter, 100,000 followers is a magical turning point at which an account like ATS (with 65k followers now) goes from important to relevant. When that happens, our tweets, favorites, and links become higher-value in Twitter searches. So for just random Twitter searches on something like 9/11 Pentagon, with 100k followers, our tweet will most-likely appear near the top. Additionally, at 100k followers, the ATS Twitter feeds appears more often in suggested feeds when people are looking for new sources of information to follow. But must importantly, 35k new followers will be a big deal. While our current status with 65k followers is quite good, those have been cultivated over a period of years. A good percentage of our existing total followers are likely not active on Twitter.

Looks like they did not get 100k .
