I used to sing this song to my daughter when I was putting her to sleep as a baby (she's three now...bedtime is a little more...complicated).
Since I love jamming out like an idiot when I'm alone, I get happy when Pandora throws a song my way that immediately becomes a favorite of mine, and
that happened with this gem...I must stop what I'm doing and feel this song when it comes on.
"The saddest day I came across was when I learned that life goes on without me." I had at least one friend who was depressed to the point of suicidal
thoughts growing up, and I know how much of a struggle it is to try and help people who are depressed and see no point in life. This song hits me
every time I hear it. I love both versions that the artist put out, for different reasons (yes, it's the same singer). (things worked out well with my
friend, BTW)
And to change it up a bit, when I'm feeling relaxed and smart (or need to become relaxed), I might seek this one out, which I love--I was introduced
to it during music appreciation in college, and just loved how there was a story written into this only using instruments and it was readily apparent
as the song progresses.
I don't even speak Japanese but for some reason I play this Utube a few times a week. Perhaps it's the hook, melody, chord
progression, just solid Rand R groove....
I'm back but I keep thinking of songs my ex likes.
so..
and the youtube comment section made me smile?? Huh?
person 1 : "I'm gonna listen to this song when I shoot myself"
Person 2 : "what if you get to the end and then want to listen to the song again? Do I shoot or just listen one more time.... then do you wait until
the songs ends or... then you think... Maybe I should have a cheeseburger and fries and couple of beers and maybe watch a movie.. you know make a day
of it before I check out... then you might think.. sh*t that was a good day... It doesn't really make sense shooting myself."
Person 1 : "I love you < 3"
Person 2 : "You too "
Awwww!
< 3
Empathy fully restored. phew.
Great thread by the way. Making my day.
edit on 6-2-2017 by Reverbs because: (no reason given)
Im deeply affected by alot of songs....but if i had to narrow it down i would have to mention the songs that basically became what i call the "theme
songs for my life"....songs that i feel express the wordless cry and longing of my soul.....and those songs are pretty few in number.
for the sake of brevity ill mention just one that has continued to be the anthem for my life and how i feel about myself and the world....
The Killers "all these things that ive done"
When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I want to stand up, I want to let go
You know, you know, no you don't, you don't
I want to shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand
Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no
If you can hold on, hold on... I take this as meaning, "Just keep trying" See All
Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
And when there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
These changes ain't changing me
The cold-hearted boy I used to be
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Over and again, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
(Time, truth, hearts)
If you can hold on
If you can hold on
