This is a favorite of mine - love Dead Can Dance

So much music I can't even think, but yours reminded me of this:

Not sure which one I like best

Then there's this - always gets me

That symphonic piece was gorgeous. Also, I just love Sinead. I feel like not many do.. but she is so talented and what a voice! Talk about emotive!
Yours reminded me of this piece.. Stravinsky conducting his own. I find it beautifully eerie (black and white, the music).

That reminded me of this, which I'll add to my list.

I'll also add this, though unrelated.

Peace.

Stravinsky :-)

I used to joke: if it ain't Russian - it ain't music. I had a friend that said the Russians are too emotional - and schmaltzy. Like that's a bad thing :-)

I love all music, but seriously...

That's my favorite track on that amazing album (followed by Goodbye Blue Sky and then Mother).

Thank you for adding it to our playlist..

Peace to you as well Ace!

Hi my friend,

That was wonderful. At first I was listening with closed eyes but am so glad I opened them and watched the musicians play.
Their expressions, movements, were as if they had become the music.

Russians are among my favorite authors, and I suppose the shmaltz has a lot to do with it.

Have a lovely day.

I love all music also, and I have so much respect for musicians that are able to actually translate what they are feeling into sound.

I play a couple of instruments. I am not very good at any of them. I think the reason why I tried to learn so many instruments, is because I was always looking for that instrument that was able to help me do just that. When I listen to a musician that is able to produce that magic, I understand the talent they possess, and appreciate the gift they share.

Bring on the schmaltzy.

I used to play the guitar, but I wasn't very good. I loved it though - so much. Same as that - trying to be the music

Bring on the schmaltzy.

This one (despite sounding upbeat compositionally) is a bit of a downer lyrically, but has always evoked strong feelings in me. I always interpreted it as a riff on the darker side of human nature.

Ape men in a cave
Painting on the wall

Nothing's gonna keep
ambitious menacing glances -
the nothing that's got it all -

From gazing over to where
hope sleeps
Artificially small

Like a beast to tame

Got a brand new game

(No happiness allowed
'Cause one's never enough
Two is always a crowd)

Peace.

These two are disturbing for very different reasons.. first one a sad look at the after effects of drugs, the second shows how quickly violence can escalate, and how in the matter of 2 minutes (less, obviously, but I'm judging based on when the conflict began) a life can be extinguished.

For those who enjoy deep, visceral writing, I created a thread to this one last night linking the perfect short story to accompany this thread (thanks to Spiramirabilis for bringing the Russians to mind).

Ah Pink Floyd..

Remembering an old love, Floyd used to sing me to sleep every night..

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
And where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
'Cause the things you say and the things you do surround me

While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun

Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life

I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight ...into the shining sun
