In a perfect world...
In the real world if you don't the other guy will.
Your weighing the concept like the threat of nuclear war has ended , and thank god we didn't try and take over.
The reality is that the chance of a global war increases every day.
Every nuclear power, every administration is a dice roll till we finally crap out..
After a global war would the remnants of humanity that survived think it was a good idea to allow multiple nuclear powers??
I doubt it.

Ok, understood.
There could well be many in the administration that are saying attack now before we lose our tactical advantage, sure.
We'll see how this plays out.
McArthur wanted to use Nukes in Korea, you are saying it would have been better to do it then than now.
Me, I'm awaiting alien intervention.

No I'm saying that we had a very narrow window between 1945 and 50, when we were the only atomic power and when every other modern state was running on fumes and we were untouched.

By 1955 Russia had enough nukes to close that window forever. Any attempt after that would just create the global war conquering the world would have stopped.

What?

You mean the war that didn't start?

As long as one nuclear weapon exists the threat never ends.

I don't know if your baiting, willfully ignorant or underestimate the general knowledge of our leaders.

War is only ever committed to with a general consensus. It's why we still have the French... Hitler could never have killed them all.

Neither could America.

Because once the population is decimated and the fog of war dies down, you'll be left with nobody to build or very unwilling participants... People who would happily rather die.

I'm not sure what has lead you to this line of thinking but I swear you can't get there like that.

People don't naturally kill each other, they rant and rave like the idiots they are till they finally snap and can't take it anymore!

Their is no dice, just idiots playing board games.

Fact is a chess game with only Queen's and King's doesn't work, they need loyal participants and humanity would never support a game of regicide. Nothing in it for us.

Get what I mean?

Maybe they don't because the numpties with the nukes would play it out as some kind of invasion.

Humanity is doomed, potentially in a good way.

I wouldn't want to help someone to see them blow their brains out the next day.

I have a conscience.

You really don't need the peasants with modern tech..

How many humans are involved with the US president launching nukes within the 7 min launch schedual??

Maybe 4....

One nuke is not the same as 10,000 vs 10,000
As you would have in any war with the great powers today.

One nuke on the loose does nothing to dent civilization as a whole.

20,000 though and we are back in the Stone Age.

One world nuclear power risks single detonations every generation or so.

A world where every major power has them risks tens of thousands being launched and maybe the extinction of mankind.

The same would be true if Britain, Iran , Russia or nazi Germany got atomic weapons first.

The threat of a global war just trumps anything, even the most corrupt NWO could come up with.

Yes this is thought experiment thread.. so is is speculating about things that didn't happen... like 80% of all ats forums lol

But most importantly hasn't happened yet.. it hasn't even been a century yet..and it only takes one big nuclear war to end us no matter how many centuries between then and now.

We definately changed the math when we created weapons able to sterilize the planet.

What if America did what you suggest then became a government parallel to North Korea?

Would it be worth it then?

Exactly how much has society evolved since the dawn of civilization? Do You really think we have evolved as a species , more in the last 2 generations than we did in all the preceding time??

You sure we fixed that problem forever? Or has it just been a really good last couple generations?

I'm not nearly that optimistic, I think it's just been a lucky 70 years....and all the close calls back that up.

Compared to a global thermonuclear war..absolutely..

Hell Hitler conquering the world is preferable to Armageddon..

There is literally nothing humans can imagaine that would trump the devestation that the next world war will bring..

Nothing worth having is free and ending the threat of a massive global nuclear war is SOOOO WORTH HAVING, you can bet it would be very costly. Like dictator ruling the world costly.

" I don't know what weapons the next world war will be fought with, but the one after that will be fought with sticks and stones. "

Modern Hitler....I don't think we'll ever see the likes of that kind of personality again

In other words, Adolph Hitler was, by today's standards, a typical radical left wing environmentalist.

Except for all the extreme right wing racial segregation/supremacy/cleansing that was the reason the world turned on him...

We didn't attack Hitler because he had socialized medicine lmao...

The Russians even greeted the nazis as liberators, until they stared genociding the locals. Then Stalin started looking real good again.

That is a real nice feel good story, but the reality of the situation is it's a dog eat dog world, always has been.

I mean hey? Just look at what Country has killed more human beings than any other Nation in history, and their own people at that? = China

The truth is hard to swallow I know, but open wide. ~$heopleNation

The only question is can we evolve fast enough where we can't say "always will be." At the end.
