I'm probably an anomaly in the thread, in that I find basmati rice HIGHLY OVERRATED. I'll eat it, but I find there's nothing special about it that warrants me spending more money for it. It's just a mildly nutty flavored rice that IMO, doesn't go with much. I find the dollar bag I get at Dollar Tree tastes better than your overpriced pretentious specialty rice does, IMO.

Also, your rant is stupid and a racist stereotype. My stepmother's Chinese, she'll be the first damn person to tell you it's just rice, who cares about snooty pickys# crap. Her advice for getting the best tasting rice has always held true for us -- sick to the cheap stuff and cook it right. Ain't no such thing as bad rice if you cook it right. Which as far as I'm concerned, is more crucial than the variety.

we use about 16 different types rice in everyday cooking. Like europians use pasta. Basmathi is good for meat and biryani and stuff. But We rarely eat meat. Eating fried aborigine coconut curry with basmati is like eating grilled wild boar with mash. It just wrong. So no basmati for me.
