So CNN's Don Lemon doesn't think this is evil!

“I don’t think it’s evil,” Lemon replied. “I don’t think it’s evil. I think these are young people and I think they have bad home training.

Good because clearly it was by definition a hate crime. I imagine they will get their butts whipped pretty good in juvenile detention.

I believe they are all 18...no Juve for them.

I saw that live last night, but I am so accustomed to his stupidity, I couldn't muster the energy to post about it.

He is a very confused ass.

Everybody has different definition of "evil". Not sure what Lemon's is but dismissing these actions as some nebulous pseudo-religious force almost seems to excuse the parents, environment or upbringing that raised these creatures, and might not be the best strategy. It was right to ask questions about where Dylan Roof came from, same should be done with these kids. "Evil" is not born, it is made.

I can't believe the way this is being treated in the press.

To my mind, this is every bit as racial and disgusting in its motivations as the Dylan Roof shooting. Don't misunderstand. The crimes are not equivalent as these animals didn't murder nine people in cold blood, but it seems pretty clear that theirmotivations were kin to Roof's when all is said and done.

They tortured a disabled man because they don't like his politics and they didn't like his skin color, not so far off why Roof shot nine people.

If one is hate crime right out of the gate, so is the other.

", but not including race?

Why not? If it's the most effective, why not?

It's not the most effective. If that were true then I wouldn't have been threatened with abduction for asking polite questions about a cult's teachings.

And these people were white. And the military which fights to guarantee their rights to free speech, and unchecked aggression is mostly, white. The police and legislature which allows this to continue is white.

The CIA which armed Bin Laden's tribe to kill 14,000 Russian troops were mostly white. When did Hitler commit suicide, not when he exterminated the Jews, when the Russian army counter-invaded. The timing says to me you don't mess with the land of the Russian Orthodox Church, and expect that a Higher Power is not going to spit in your face by allowing the very instrument you armed (The Mujahadeen) to give you a wake up call.

Jimmy Carter who lied to the American people and called the Russian army's presence in Afghanistan an invasion, versus and invitation by moderate Muslims legally ruling Afghan to fight against illegal radicals, was in fact a white president. And most of the soldiers who continue to join the military without researching history are white. The people who lie to them from their infancy to their youth, even make countries like Russia out to be the enemy are probably white.

So, the whole white supremacy thing is a lie. Supremacy is established by self-discipline and education regardless of color, and these abilities, like self-discipline can be measured by performance. We had evaluations in the military, and were graded quarterly, semi-annually. Marks they were called.

"where are your parents?? where are you guardians?"... this guy's an idiot??
they are 18 years old for crying out loud!! and what they are lacking, I am sorry, but when I was a kid, we learned it in kindergarten. these kids seems to show a total lack of empathy! which is why I keep going back to mental illness. the whole... look world, I am so cool!! I can sit here and cause this person physical pain and laugh about it is so... I can't find the words for it! but, I have to say, empathy seems to be a falling away quality in humanity that isn't just lacking in the kids who have bad parenting.
weather or not I would consider it evil, I really haven't though about it much.

how can you be sure that the guy even had any interest in politics? more than likely he was chosen because they saw him as an easy target.

From what I read one of them was a classmate. Just by looking at him I don't think you could tell he was challenged mentally.

Was Hitler evil?
Jeffrey Dahmer: Was he evil?
...Not if we consider 'Evil' some nebulous, pseudo-religious, force.

Really, it's ALL just "bad home training".
If only baby Hitler had got a pony.

I got really angry then I cried when seeing this last night. it was not because of the race as much is that could have been my son.

My son is an intellectually disabled white child and when he gets older in some ways he will still be an innocent child like person, he is very happy, loving and trusting. something like what these animals did would probably devastate him or break him. Ever seen a broke animal that is what he would be like after something like this.

I hope they hit these guys hard with prison time so no one else would think it is ok to act in such a way to another human being.

When a society comes to this it is near its end

um... I ain't gonna watch anymore of the video than I have.. but as far as being classmates...
does that mean that they were from the same graduating class, or that they were in the same special education class? to me, all of those who were in my graduating class were my classmates, and they ranged from being brilliant to studying enfish! and from what I have seen of the video, he seems to be kind of turned off, which makes me wonder if maybe he might be autistic. although that is just a feeling that I got from watching the little that I saw. but it could explain why it took so long for them to get him to talk to him.

From the press and video that might be an easy conclusion, and it might even be correct...but I read that the parents of the kidnapped boy received texts from the kidnappers...Their first motivation might have been money and the FB video meant to get the parents to pay...Don't know what the texts were...and again...from the press your conclusion of outright hate crime seems valid...still want to know what they texted the parents...ideally they can be charged with all of the above.

Look at ABC's presentation of this situation!

Hate crime charges filed against 4 in Facebook Live torture case

No mention of the repeated Trump or white comments. This is the thing they choose to quote from the videos:

"Bro look. (Screaming). Get to the corner, put your hands against the wall, bro," one of the attackers said.

So that's the quote that characterizes the story?????

10:30 a.m.

The grandmother of a young woman associated with a live video on Facebook of a beating says her granddaughter "had her ups and downs," but is "a good person."

Priscilla Covington of Chicago says she raised the young woman "since she was a baby." She says her granddaughter no longer lives at the family home but still lives in Chicago.

The grandmother says the video doesn't reflect the young woman she raised.

She says she's worried because her family, including the woman's younger sisters, have been threatened since the video was posted online.

She says she saw and talked to her granddaughter about four days ago, and "she was OK."
