Listen, I realize this was lost on most people, but what I was responding to was the general attitude of "California? We don't need no stinking California!"

In a different thread a couple of weeks ago, I encountered a poster who was making the argument that he wouldn't shed a tear if Hollywood was swallowed by a hole in the earth, which I initially took to be hyperbole, but which later proved to actually represent his attitude, never mind all the real human beings who would perish in such an event.

So, my point was that California does provide value to our Republic. And if they were suddenly a different nation, all the ways in which Cali is intertwined with our Republic (which both we and they take for granted) would be subject to all manner of negotiation which in today's environment simply does not exist.

That really was my only point.

My point was NOT really about oranges.

Look. If California actually did decide to tell the US to shove it. It might be good for them. They might actually be put in a position to realize the unreality of half their regulations and be forced to choose between economic viability or staring at their pretty, burning hills.
