Looks like the Calexit movement is going forward, if not actual at least promotional...

www.latimes.com...
California gained an embassy in Russia last weekend, at least in the eyes of those who have promised to seek a statewide vote on secession, nicknamed "Calexit," in 2018.

More power to them... Republic of Cali

Oh, please, please do.

Of course, if they did, they would sink and the Chinese or Russians would move in. Then we would have real problems.

Actually, if you want to kill two birds with one stone build pipelines from the ocean to the Southwest deserts, utilize solar distillation to create tons of fresh water. Hell, utilize 20 ft diameter pipes and make a wall out of it.

I thought most of the water for California irrigation came from Lake Shasta and another Cali Lake.

Is that not correct?

I think we all know the notion of a Calexit is an absolute joke. But in this imaginary scenario, doesn't California own most of the coast?

Ah yes, marijuana farms galore! California could become the n̶e̶w̶ ̶M̶e̶x̶i̶c̶o̶, the new new Mexico in the federal war on drugs! Dear god, that would be awful!

This is nuts though and I really doubt Californians will give this a second thought.

What Cali is doing is basically handing itself over to La Reconquista.... considering that Latinos outnumber Gringos and the Dems have opened the doors to illegals a la Jerry Browns Sanctuary STATE bill... and unprecedented rights given to illegals within Cali.

Cali may depart from the Union.. but I imagine it wont be in the manner people assume it will.

Marijuana, sure.

But also....

From: www.slate.com...

California produces a sizable majority of many American fruits, vegetables, and nuts: 99 percent of artichokes, 99 percent of walnuts, 97 percent of kiwis, 97 percent of plums, 95 percent of celery, 95 percent of garlic, 89 percent of cauliflower, 71 percent of spinach, and 69 percent of carrots (and the list goes on and on). Some of this is due to climate and soil. No other state, or even a combination of states, can match California’s output per acre. Lemon yields in California, for example, are more than 50 percent higher than in Arizona. California spinach yield per acre is 60 percent higher than the national average. Without California, supply of all these products in the United States and abroad would dip, and in the first few years, a few might be nearly impossible to find. Orchard-based products in particular, such as nuts and some fruits, would take many years to spring back.

They do realize there is no possibility to secede, right?

That decision was made over 150 years ago.

Texas v White, secession declared unconstitutional by Supreme Court in 1869.

Even left wing mags like Mother Jones have pointed out that most of CaLifornia's produce could be grown other places, just not as cheaply. California should be worried since their biggest customers are the other 49 states. Slap a tariff and an import fee on it and that's no longer the case.

I think it's just a pipe dream at this juncture. But lets see what would be affected, and how geographic topography could work in America's benefit. Oregon would find Portland and Washington's Seattle become a major shipping lanes just as a measure of national security. The borders that illegals would need to access the United States would be MUCH more Hostile and deadly. Ultimately there is no water in California, the drought pervades every plan on growth and business. With Pacific Rim imports stalling or declining, it would be another blow.

And blight would ensue. It already pervades Los Angles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.... ie. So Cal. A great deal of possible 'White Flight' would ensue, and business and money leave the state in short order. It wouldn't be Mexifornia, or any part of the United States.

Then they do what every country does - trade.

It's not like they'll need all of those for themselves. I'm sure they'll get good prices from North Korea and Cuba.

Actually, that decision proclaimed that Texas had never seceeded because secessesion was impossible. Another court could easily overturn it
