Once upon a time this site used facts and evidence to try and find answers when things didn't quite add up - like aliens and the Illuminati. Now it uses party rhetoric and ad hominem attacks to try find out whose opinion is the "righterest". A site dedicated to "denying ignorance" has lately shown a stunning lack of such denial and - more importantly - a stunning abundance of logical fallacies.

Licorice ice cream tastes bad. Therefore, chocolate ice cream tastes good.

Read that slowly, as many times as it takes for it to sink into your thick monkey cranium. Does that statement make any sense at all?

No. No it doesn't. This is called a logical fallacy. Just because one thing is bad does not mean another thing is good. And furthermore, bad and good are OPINIONS, not facts.

Now stick with me for just a moment, because I'm really going to blow the lid off of your whole world.

Hillary Clinton is corrupt. Therefore Donald Trump is the second coming of Jesus and cannot be corrupted.

I'll wait...

Did you spot the logical fallacy? Just because Hillary Clinton was the most corrupt candidate ever put forth as a presidential candidate (And this really is quite indisputible. Sorry.) does not mean that Donald Trump is incorruptible. This is a logical fallacy. And before the republicans get their guns and pitch forks, this logic flows BOTH WAYS. Hillary Clinton was NOT a good candidate just because Donald Trump is demonstrably unqualified for the job.

STOP ARGUING OPINIONS USING FLAWED LOGIC. Get off whichever party's D*** you're currently riding and go back to discussing facts, figures, and Bob Lazar. This concludes today' rant. If you have any further questions, please refer to the FAQ below.

FAQ:

1.
Q: Help, I didn't understand this post!
A: This is not a question. Also, that means you're dumb**. Sorry.

2.
Q: Hey wait a second, I support Donald Trump and that means Hillary Clinton is a corrupt idiot who needs to be in jail!
A: Also not a question. Also, you clearly didn't understand this post. Please see question 1.

3.
Q: Donald Trump is a buffoon and is not qualified for the presidency. Hillary Clinton was the superior choice.
A: Still not a question. Also, you clearly didn't understand this post. Please see question 1.

4.
Q: Why do you have to use naughty words and be mean?
A: Because this is a rant and because I like naughty words.

5.
Q: Your post offended me!
A: Good. Then you're probably one of the idiots I'm talking about. Also, this wasn't a question either.

6.
Q: If I'm so dumb how come you had a spelling mistake, comma splice, or other grammatical error?
A: To lure you into a false sense of security and so the trolls will have something to snack on.

7.
Q: We're not here to discuss what YOU want to discuss!
A: Not a qu- ah screw it. I don't care what you discuss. I just want you discuss whatever you choose to discuss LOGICALLY. The recent onslaught of drivel has threatened to give me a brain tumor.

8.
Q: How much longer is this FAQ going to be? Do you really think people will read this far?
A: I'm done.

**"Dumb" as used in this post can be defined as:
"lacking intelligence or good judgment; stupid; dull-witted."

Nice, your own FAQ. At least the great ATS tradition of sarcasm lives on.

Thanks for the lol's. S&F

That being said, any one can choose which threads to click on and engage in. I just wish some of the really good, informative threads I've seen here would make it to the front page or have a lot of member engagement. Instead it seems like everything that is about what Trump tweeted or a 2 sentence thread about how the other side is a bunch or ignorant, delusional, racist, commie, idiots always gets 120 flags in about an hour or two.

I just finished reading your OP to some people and we all agree, you win the internet today. What a creative, refreshing way to get a very important message across. This rocks, thank you for posting it!

Nice post. Personally as a Trump voter, I see nothing wrong with what you said. I made a choice, knowing that Trump was corrupt just like Hillary. For me it all came down to Trump having had made his millions in the private sector, while Hillary did it in government. But you are right, now that Trump is in the White House, it is our job to hold his feet to the fire and make sure he delivers.

Licorice tastes like bitterness and disappointment. Like asparagus. Which would also be even more disgusting combined with ice cream.

Aha! Another logical fallacy? Ice cream tastes good, therefore anything disgusting will taste better if it is served in ice cream. 😜😜

Asparagus is delicious.

Licorice isn't bad.

I was thinking like Red Vines ice cream.

I don't give a fig for whining about logical fallacies. Humans aren't logical. Computers are logical. Humans are emotional and why is it shameful to have emotions?

I do not like cold things, therefore any flavor ice-cream is bad.

Shark attacks increase in correlation to a rise in ice cream consumption.

Licorice has many healthful benefits, therefore it is good for you, and tastes good too!!

Donald Trump IS the best candidate for president, he displays all of the hallmarks of what makes a great leader: cunning and ruthlessness.

What BS. Come on, let me guess :
Public is bad
Private is good
......all hail private enterprise. What utter BS. This is about the establishment and Trump is an establishment conman whereas Clinton is the establishment "norm".

Oh and are you so utterly naive that you really think that now you have voted a tax evading, serial bankruptee (AND THUS DOES NOT PAY HIS BILLS THAT PAYS BLUE COLLAR WORKERS OF THE OWED COMPANY THEIR WAGES duh!!!!!) conman into the Whitehouse that somehow you can control him.......FFS........wake up. I mean how thick do you have to be? He even said several years ago how he would con the electorate......and he did.....exactly as he said......and you still voted for him......how thick do you have to be?

Come on, let's have the defensive BS. I'm used to it, Brexit was 6 months ahead of the US election so I have grown used to the defensive BS by conned voters !!!!!!!

Good post, and I agree. I've kept out of posting in all the political stuff because of precisely the reasons you described. Although, I feel like I've been seeing it in other areas with more frequency (could be wrong about this, though). I find myself laughing at the "logic" of many of those posts. Making a logical error isn't necessarily the end of the world - if step back and reconsider it or correct it when someone points the flaw to you.

Problem is that I've seen so many "broken record" posts by the same person spouting the same thing, seemingly just to troll. I also find it problematic when someone's logic isn't necessarily flawed, but stems from a single, debatable source. Then you get all these two people across 10+ arguing about an issue and continually saying "did you even read the link???"....

THAT is what those Sharknado movies were missing!!! The sharks in the tornado needed to be eating their favorite ice cream while leaving sprinkles behind in their wake.

EDIT: (sorry for totally going off topic here, I couldn't resist - alright, back to the rant at hand!)

Great post Yorkshire Lad, alas the US are oblivious to our current private sector struggles....if they were able to see just how damaging privatisation is, then they would also see just how the OP's thread starter's logic could be applied to private vs public ownership.

Spoiler...privatisation is no better than public ownership, in fact on current circumstances it could be argued that it is worse.

Right now here in the UK we are seeing Atlas Shrugged in reverse....state interference is required and private sector involvement needs to be curbed.
