Well they did want to surrender, they made this clear many times and the US knew this. The thing is they didn't want to unconditionally surrender and this was the only thing the US would accept . In the end they did keep one condition they were asking for - which was that they could keep their emperor. Other conditions they wanted was to not have occupation forces, no war crime trails and various other things that the US was not ever going to agree on. The US decided to drop the bomb to both save their troops lives and to stop Russia from laying claim to parts of Asia including Japan if they were part of the invasion and they wanted to be part of it for this reason. At the time the US only had 3 bombs, one they used for a test as well as two others "little boy" and "fat man" and no more could be built in any reasonable amount of time. So they had to make sure that these two had enough effect to make the Japanese surrender. Which is why they dropped both and chose targets that were not entirely miliarty in nature. If anyone is interested in this i suggest you watch the documentry "Hiroshima" I found it very interesting and it would answer a lot of question people have asked.

If you think you are justified in nuking a country that gives you problems, then surely you think terrorists or other nations are justified in nuking you if you give them problems. Truth is you would be the first to whine about how cowardly it was.

And after that, we were feared! We need to be feared again

I would have thought respected would have been a better word.

And I don't think bombing someone into submission is going to get
you any respect.

Yep...that's a wonderful idea....if you don't do it our way...if we don't get our way...we'll just bomb you....how juvenile. Never mind that many of the people that would die, have no more control over their government than we do.....

We have plenty of control over the government, if we don't want our government to do a genicide or go to war, our soldiers can strike if they had the guts to....

The definition of the terrorist should be what the UN proposed a month ago, "Any entity that harms a civilian mentaly or physically." Although almost every nation would be terrorizing than.

The US did not exterminate the japanese people, it used a powerful weapon against them.

This is true, however you must also take into account that Hiroshima was virtually untouched by previous major bombing campaigns and had no military installations or targets of interest within the city limits, just innocent people. These signs point to the destruction of 'the city of water' as being more of an "experiment" for damage limitations of atomic weaponry in civilian situations.

Use it or loose the threat of it ..

The US would love to drop the big one on the Middle East but cannot do it until someone bombs the US. The powers that be are probably busy trying to make that happen as we sit here.

The cold hard truth is that in this capitalistic society it would behoove The war cause if a dirty bomb went off somewhere in the lower 48 ...

This would allow the war to be won much quicker and much cheaper ... Yeah, it is cold, but we can't have our cake and eat it too... Money outweighs life .. If you do not know that, glance Eastward ....

Anyone care to guess what color the State that gets popped will be?
I choose RED ... Call it poetic justice.

So, Yes, I think the US will bomb the middle east (syria, root of said evil) after a dirty bomb linked to Syria goes off here on American soil.

What? After the first nuke was dropped, the continued fighting and refused to surrender. It too two nuclear bombs to stop them.

our soldiers can strike if they had the guts to....

Thats called mutiny, and the punishment for mutiny is execution. They have no 'right' to mutiny/strike.

The US would love to drop the big one on the Middle East but cannot do it until someone bombs the US.

Why? There is no popular oversight on the use of Nukes. Why would the government have ot wait until then to pointlessly use a nuke?

If a nuke was used in the US, the US will probably respond with all weapons in its arsenal, not merely guns and nukes.

Let us take care of Iraq first. Sure we are the bad guys in this, what is new. Once everything is done there, pull everyone home and leave the military bases empty across the globe. Close our boarders and turn our backs on the world due to our bad boy image. So what if other countries kill themselves off. What would we care anymore for the fact that they do not need our help in any situation. Make the United Nation find a new home somewhere else on the planet. Get them off American soil and not keep our membership. Close internet access to other countries and ignore them. They do not want to hear us and see us. If this is what they want, so be it. We owe noone, nor do they owe us.
Dropping the bomb, we will not need it.

For those unfamiliar with Neutron Bombs...they destroy all living things, but leave structures and other non-living things in tact. So we could ait for the smoke to clear and then go in and take over!!

Is this too extreme?

Ok, next time there is a alarm/burglary/shot in your neighrbourhood, we will come and annihilate the whole block. I hope you don't mind, do you? it will be a quick solution and will make all the criminals fear us instead of thinking they can get way from the law.

-your federal government.

why would you want to nuke a bunch of people that wanted to get out and vote? Why would you want to take their desire for freedom away???

Because Sadam's not in power anymore thats reason for you to want to nuke iraqi's???

If I was about to barf while facing you, I wouldn't hold back.

"Why don't we drop a Neutron Bomb on Iraq?"

Why don't we drop a neutron bomb on your house. You're giving *US* problems, so we should just kill you? Yes? This is your rationalization, is it not?

We are all humans on this planet. Just because the U.S. Government has been succesful in brainwashing you to fear and hate others doesn't mean you have to do what the gov't says. Getta grip. Wake up, for crissake.

a neutron bombn kills all living things, right zaby ?

Iraq's fauna, though scarce, includes;

cheetah, gazelle, antelope, wild ass, hyena, wolf, jackal, wild pig, hare, jerboa, and bat. Numerous birds of prey are found in Iraq, including the vulture, buzzard, raven, owl, and various species of hawk; other birds include the duck, goose, partridge, and sand grouse. Lizards are fairly common.

A neutron bomb, sheesh. That is simply rediculous, and there is nothing more that need be said about it.

The Bible teaches an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.....How many of our troops are being killed fighting a war the wrong way right now?? But that's somehow okay? 60,000 young boys were killed in Vietnam for nothing because we underestimated the enemy and we didn't have a plan to win the war. Do we have a legitimate plan to win this war? NO. If we did, it would have been over a long time ago.

I wasn't serious about the neutron bomb comment...I wanted to cause a reaction which I did. But something other than what we are doing needs to be done and I'm sick of hearing about how much money the mega-rich are making off this war....they are the ones that want to drag it out and could care less how many of our troops are killed in the process.

And someone asked...do I have any idea what's going on over in Irag....ah, yes I certainly do!

So what is your solution soldier?

Which is why they dropped both and chose targets that were not entirely miliarty in nature.

not exactly military? hows that?

I dont think that fall out of radioative material is going to work, because of possibilities of cross contamination with non tagets, but what about an incindinary carpet bombing , with 1500 lbs bombs filled with white phospherious pod mines type war heads that dispurse over large areas it can eat through most non heavy armour vehicles building people and gear.

a sorty in grid fashion evac non coms and lay down bombs and after the smoke clears then station personell in the area to cover for the clean zone and keep this going one grid at a time till you have eliminated the presence of insurgents, Costly I know but not as costly as the war is now.

What a sick comment and thread. Why don't we bomb the USA instead and stop American imperialism and let another nation rule the world for a change . Ignorant people like you with this all mighty American all-powerful rhetoric have no clue of what your invasion of Iraq is all about. Wake up America USA is not the belly button of the Universe. You make me want to vomit.

Like all other empires in the past that have collapsed your turn will come. Your governments past a present have bullied your way around and created much of the havoc. This world his sick and tired of your arrogant egomaniac tyrant supremacy military and economic control.
At the rate you are going the USA and Zionist Israel will be in a corner fighting the world. When bombs will fall on those two countries it will be to late to asked why do the world hate us. Paris Berlin and other cities fell 60 years ago. This time around it could well be the good old USA and this because of people like you and its leaders.

just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean you should drop a neutron bomb on them because its convenient... it's like treating human beings like cockroaches.
