OMG. Which is it?

Fox just said Fidel, but CNN says his brother????

And they talk about fake news?

All news is fake news until it's been approved by the appropriate moderators.
That's why there's a push to bock fake news. Get it?

Fake news is any news that goes against the official story.
This is why they legalized the us government using propaganda on us citizens right after Obama took his second term.

Soon anything that isn't their story will not be available on the internet though main stream search engines. Since the masses only get their news from the tv or social media, all non government controlled sources of information will be silenced, save for a few of us nutters on the side- but thanks to the cia giving the masses the idea that people who question authority are crazy, and crazy period are dangerous, they will have effectively censored the internet... The last remaining thread of freedom of speech.

And to think people are still worried about Castro... Have we heard from him lately? Maybe he was in fine health and was considering spilling some beans.

I wonder if Trump will reinact the embargo, or maybe flood the zone with capitalism instead?

Trump will strike a deal, the best deal, and make Cuba great again. The best.

Couldnt help myself. Love it when presidents give good comedy. - not a partisan post.

I thought the CIA would never get him.

I'm not sure how well this will go over here on ATS however, here goes.

I think Castro really just wanted to protect his very small country. To the US on the other hand having Cuba so very close to the US communism of any sort was intolerable and for many good reasons.

However, when you look at some of the great aspects of Cuba, they have some of the best doctors in the world, they're an inventive people and they're resilient. I don't think IMHO, Castro(Fidel) ever thought he stood a chance against the US even with the false backing of Russia at that time in time of war. But, I think he figured he would stand his ground an insist on what we refer to communism for the sake and protection of his country.

Remember, he and his brother Raul are and were of the old school. Fidel never got the new times and changing ways of our planet. Raul, kind of gets it. We will see how this nation develops and how we either team up with them or go against them.

I think our new President elect Trump, is going to choose to team up somewhat in a strictly business manner with Cuba.
I certainly hope he does...I love those dam cigars.

His brother Raul, has proven to be somewhat softer. We will see. Just my personal opinion, I really don't think the guy(Fidel)was that bad. I think he had a big mouth, big balls and no backup yet, dared anyone to try him. The US knew better and we just left Cuba alone and ignored them.

That is all.

A lot of "important" people go to Cuba when they need specialized medical treatment? I had no idea Cuban physicians were among the world's best. Thanks for that info.

Fidel was a cancer to South America, supporting Comunist insurgency in all countries, he helped create Chavez and leeched from years of my country, his intelligence service helps persecute Venezuelan opositors.

Good riddance

Trump has already violated the embargo:

Fake news.

But, consummate hypocrite that he is, he has appointed a pro-blockade lobbyist to his transition team:

Faker news.

The bottom line is that Trump will do what is best for Trump, not the American or Cuban people.

A common misperception. Fidel made public health a priority. To project soft power, Cuba has sent more physicians to developing nations than all other nations combined; this has given them a reputation for having a good medical system.

He has outlived 5 presidents during his time in power. I'll hand it to the little commie bastard, he out lived his biggest enemies. There's hardly anyone from the old days left to celebrate. Maybe Bush Sr, but he doesn't look up to celebrating anything.

Hopefully freedom of speech will appear again in Cuba and homosexuals will be able to love there in peace.

Did you know Fidel started out as a CIA asset? (I'm sure you know Tito worked for Britain's SOE....)

Did you know CIA tried to kill him over 630 times?

Fidel Castro represented something almost mythical 'to parts of the world that were affected(destroyed) by the US. He will forever stand as the ultimate opposer of the US dominance.

For that alone, he always had, and will have my biggest respect.

Fidel Castro, el commadante

That's what happens when you double cross the Company. They spent blood and treasure to help him overthrow Batista in their feud with the FBI; why do you think he got such positive press in the USA?

But see, it's like people forget Batista was a pro-american ruler. I never understood why would the CIA want to overthrow the guy.

Aside from that, I too believe he was, if not trained then at least helped by the CIA, reasons unknown.

What a sad day. I remember growing up and watching Tito going to Cuba and meeting with Fidel.

I've waited a long time to light up my Cuban cigars that I've ordered a couple of years back. That way, I will honor el commadante

Batista was in the pocket of the Mafia. Cuba was a staging area for narcotics and the casinos were laundering money. Hoover was corrupt and looked the other way, so CIA figured they would clean house and put their own puppet in charge. It was only at the last moment that Fidel turned to Moscow, which took the Praesidium totally by surprise. Naturally, they sought to take advantage of the situation. Rather than be an American puppet, Fidel played the superpowers off against one another... like Tito and Nasser.

Unless, you're speaking of Argentina, then I don't know another S.A. Country for him to infiltrate or cause harm too.. When something like this happens, you gotta kind of look at the person in charge in the nation. What did he/she allow? Who was your Pres?

It's the same thing we're currently going through in the US. We're so incredibly divided that I personally don't quite know how we're going to come together.

All in all, I live in a resilient nation and it is my hope that we come together and enter and Independent age.

I don't know what Castro's issues were with South America, except for Argentina...and it wasn't good. But that also has a lot to do with the Vatican and the Catholic religion.
