This was from the day before youtu.be... They seem to be getting pretty good (better than most) at predicting.

Read your post the other day about the effects of the Moon on our Earth causing quakes and just recently there's been 2... 1 close to Japan, the other this one in NZ. Tmrw is when the Moon will be closest, so we'll have to watch if there's another one coming..

Huh, I just got done looking at it. It does look like lightning, but if there was no storm in the area, then what else would have caused it?

I've tried a dozen times and each time it throws an error. I'd screenshot it but the error only stays on the screen for a second before it just defaults to my feed. I guess there will be no watching earthquake lights for me. Le sigh.

I wanted to post on here to keep up with this ... We live near fault line. And I've had the most scary vivid nightmares last night and the night before .. My grandma said may be connected to moon cause I usually don't remember my dreams ..

I always keep up with the moon phases ..

I haven't looked at the damage this earthquake has caused yet I just saw the title and posted. That is a big one tho

Nothing from our friend, but they are in Ohoka, Caterbury region. Looking at the map, they may have had to evacuate this morning.

skynews actually say waves of up to 5 metres expected but will probably die down by the time they reach the coastline:

news.sky.com...

Well, I'm saying they'll robably die down by time reach coastline.

A tsunami has hit coastal communities in New Zealand after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country's South Island. New Zealand's civil defence ministry warned people to move to higher ground as the tsunami threat could last for several hours. It said people close to the epicentre should expect waves of three to five metres high - but the warning applies to the whole coastline.

Oh my god! There was a major quake in a Christchurch NZ in 2011 that was a 6.3 that caused so much damage and 185 people lost their lives.

I pray that the people and animals there are ok, and that the aftershocks settle down in size.

Living through a large earthquake is emotionally traumatizing, can't even imagine living through 2 in 5 years.

Oh, I don't think anything seriously bad has happened to them, but it's like you aren't going to hear from your relatives during a tornado warning when they're in the basement. Odds that their specific house has been sucked up are very, very low, but that doesn't stop you from worrying until you know for sure.

But they are relatively close to the coast, and they may have gotten some damage on and around their property because they are in that area.

Those seem to be pretty common, we had blue lights in the sky during the 2014 South Napa Quake.

CONFIRMING TSUNAMI THREAT.....

New Zealand's civil defence organisation has JUST issued a RENEWED tsunami warning

Apparently, it already hit the South Island...

Watching that clip in the link sent me chills... Its nighttime, you have this crazy siren going off, you're disheveled due to a large EQ and now there's a possible giant wave coming at you...... I live on the west coast (seattle) and this is my biggest fear for sure....

So
Good morning survivors
In the light of day;
M7.6 officially Geonet
First thing is Kaikoura is cut off by road
Just had a big Air Force helicopter fly over our house heading south
Tsunami warning has JUST been lifted
Cook Strait Ferries are shut down
CD (Civil Defense) saying don't go to work in Wellington today
Wellington suburban rail is shut down
People in Christchurch evacuated inland and in evacuation centers (understandable given their recent history there)

I did go to sleep at 1:45ish so didn't feel any further aftershocks, the power came on around that time, good job on the part of the power guys.
When I woke up and put the TV on at 5.50am they were going on about the Tsunami warning and a 7.6 quake and I thought chit was there another one?
The investigation begins

Glad your ok fuzzy muzzy. Someone felt it in Auckland but I was sleeping like a baby. Friends in staverly were woken up all night by the quake and aftershocks. I got my eyes on the news. Let's hope that was da big one, not a foreshock.
