No, for sure not. I have seen the raw data. It was one big one, and then a 6.2 or so following right after, and then more smaller aftershocks.

Sounds as though there might have been some favorable resonance if the effects are more like a 6.6 quake.
I read 7.4 in the headlines this morning and almost fell out of my chair.

Ok, thank you...I thought it was just a duplicate listing of the same quake at different reported mags, but the coords were slightly different so I thought I'd double check.

Yeah I agree it felt like a 7
Geonet SeisComP3 had it at 7.6 at one point 2 minutes after the Quake then it downgraded.
We were swaying back and forth here 50km north of Wellington definitely felt both the P and S waves distinctly
Not much damage at our house a few things fell over.
Reports of blown glass windows in the CBD in Wellington
No power here 1 hour afterwards

That must be scary to feel one that powerful.
So far I've not experienced a big one

There's conflicting reports of somewhat of a tsunami threat
New Zealand's civil defence organisation has issued a tsunami warning

Perhaps this has something to do with the Super Moon coming this week.

7.5 ... that's big.

Hasn't this been predicted somewhere?

If you look at the RSOE alert map and zoom in to New Zealand, the entire coastline north of Christchurch is lit up like a christmas tree with earthquake hits.

Something has woken up !
