The pools show Hillary is the next president, and according to Putin that will be the beginning of WW3

So I thought it was about time I made a top10 basic cheap items that you need to keep yourself and your family alive.. or atleast a fighting chance if you survived the first wave of nukes.

a reply to: SpacespiderYou only need one basic thing and that is an off world space habitat that you and your descendants can live on for the hundreds of years it will take for the planet to become safe to live on.

Sure, a red bag with a white cross on and some patches in it will make me survive in a nuked, contaminated world...

You really only need three:
  • Common sense
  • Determination
  • Luck

Everything else is a convenience. A keen eye will tell you if you're in a radioactive area. Just watch the animals/plants around you. First aid kits are nice, but people survived on their wits long before band-aids. Fires can be started with sticks and vines. Water can be purified by boiling. Survival tools can be fashioned from basic items found in nature, or even better, by using junk.

Without the three things listed above, all your list will do is benefit others who find your body.

Are you really going to want to survive WW3 if it happens??

Surviving is not living.

Existence in a radiated wasteland of death or living generation after generation inside some underground military bunker isn't a valid option to not having a living planet.

All I need for WW3 is bottle, some bud, a good seat and someone to share those final hours with. What's left afterward will be a sh*t existence for anything still here.

Not to mention the fact that IMO if we're the cause of nuclear fallout on earth we don't deserve to survive it anyway.

I hope you're joking about some of suggested items in the video. If I get a lifestraw, will it filter out radiation in my drinking water ? The NBC suit is useless unless you have a place to take it off and decontaminate.....how could you eat and drink without exposing yourself to radiation ?? My first -aid kit for a nuclear strike will be a few gallons of Bacardi and pepsi ....three cartons of cigarettes should last me the 2 weeks I might live .....some good reading material to take my mind off my teeth falling out and my skin shedding like a snake.

I'll make sure to have shatter-proof reading glasses ready, plus there's a library near me.

Fair enough. I just don't want folks thinking these are all you need. They would be convenient, just not necessary.

If there is another World War, especially one in the US, it will be an eye-opening experience for almost everyone. War ain't pretty, and it ain't romantic. War is pure hell. We as a society are far too dependent on things, and not dependent enough on ourselves.

That said, those are some helpful items. They're just not going to help anyone survive their own inner weaknesses.

With the number of nukes and devastation that will occur, it's not about giving up or not giving up. You've already thrown everything away. What exactly is left to give up other than a little bit of miserable time.

You're already dead and simply running down what's left of the clock at that point.

What are hoping to do exactly??? You going to go clean up an entire planet of radiated waste material??? Hang out for however long it takes for nuclear winter to end and life to start up again??? What will you eat or drink during those thousands of years???

No little red box is going to save you after nuclear war because it's not set up that way. Nobody launches one or two and then calls it a day. If they launch it's going to be big and the retaliation probably even bigger. Anything still living just means it gets to die slower than everything else.

No, it's about rebuilding. Somebody has to survive to do that.

Give up or not give up is a question for victims. I will never give up. I will survive. I have to, because the alternative is simply unacceptable.

Not all of us on ATS is from US and Russia you know.. and even there will be survivors, some people have been preparing for this event a long time.

The items I listed are as stated "basic" stuff that you can grap on your way out of the door.. heading for your shelter.

I happens to spent a lot of time on Greenland with family.. how many nukes will fall there ?
We gather our own food and take care of our self.
