Darkest Embrace
Love is hard to take, a silver tongued snake,
deceiving with delusions of happiness and joy.
As the illusion wears thin, strikes mercilessly then,
poisoning the heart, which it slowly destroys.
The mirage of today, fades slowly away,
revealing the darkness to those it ensnares.
The spark at the start, quickly departs,
leaving behind only gloom and despair.
Love is at least, a carnivorous beast,
leaving the flesh while devouring the soul.
By nibbling away, day after day,
it destroys the passion and turns the flame cold.
This beast in it's lair, has not a care,
for the loss and the heartache it leaves behind.
Now the blackest void, the bliss once enjoyed,
cannot escape the pit where it's confined.
Love is an evil knight, repelling all light,
maiming and crushing, with no outward marks,
Shattering dreams, as tears fall in streams,
it leaves the landscape barren an stark.
No mercy, No Quarter, it's unspoken order,
bitter and heartless, it has no remorse,
Sword in it's hand, one cannot withstand,
the dominion it has as it rides it's dark horse.
Once love has fled, the tears have been shed,
one feels so empty, lost and alone.
The anger once there, the cold, icy glare,
the tempest has passed, and ones chilled to the bone.
Understanding, none, of how it came undone,
reliving memories one cannot erase,
Longing for release, the everlasting peace,
welcoming death and his darkest embrace.
