Was Willy Wonka secretly a pedophile?

Since Gene Wilder recently passed on, I went back and re watched Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Last time i watched this movie i was just a child, But as an adult, i noticed he gave off a really creepy pedo vibe. The way he Caresses charily, The way he treats the girls, I mean.. What say you ATS?

Edit: To clarify, Im talking about willy wonka, the character. Not Gene

I'd have to watch it again. But, it could just be the director saying "no... move like [this]", and the actor doing what he is instructed. It's a bit hard to judge someone based on that kind of thing in a gig like that.

i don;t mean gene Wilder, I mean the character he plays, Wonka himself. Was it the same with the books?

No. WW wasn't a pedo. He was enlightened. He wanted a child to take over for him when he was gone. Not an adult because they would want to do thing their way. Why does everything have to boil down to sex?

No. He was supposed to be weird and eccentric and a genius.

If anything he didn't even like kids. Which is why he kept setting them up waiting for their irresponsible inner child to lead them astray and fail his tests.

He was looking for someone pure that understood the true meaning of goodness and kindness to take over for him. A child because they'd be young at heart, but they had to be innocent in their heart as well.

There are few pure movies that all can watch at any time together. This is one of them. The Princess Bride is another. Just a good movie for everyone.

Cant a guy in a purple jacket give a kid an entire chocolate factory without secretly wanting to have sex with him?

Gene did have a creepy leering kinda look during certain scenes of that movie.

Maybe he was psychotic?

He didnt seem terribly concerned that several children perished in the machinations of the factory.

I know he claims they all survived, but Veruca and her old man went into a furnace.

Im guessing the rest ended up Oompa Loompa food too.

And no, Willy doesn't lie with children but I can't say for sure the Umpaloompas.

I just read that Gene died today. He only made movies that appealed to him. I absolutely believe Gene was no pedo neither was Willy-even though that is a funny name.
I really am sad about his passing-I loved all his movies and him.

I did not realize I was breaking any rules when I posted it. I love and respected this man as well, Don't get me wrong.

Roald Dahl, the author, is known to have had his dark side. Perhaps what you are seeing as pedophilia in Willie Wonka is actually you getting a glimpse of the author's nature in his work?

I am not saying Dahl was a pedo, but the hint of darkness might be leaking through and you might be simply trying to explain it by looking for the most obvious explanation - grown man ... lots of children ...

Would have been perfect if Gilda hadn't died so long ago. That almost killed him.
