I'm probably much older than you but in the 70's he was a real true star and then married Gilda Radner, from SNL, who everyone loved and then she died of cancer. So, many sad thoughts about Gene today-very nostalgic.

This made me literally laugh out loud.

It is a fun movie for all ages, but there's no question Wonky gives off a creepy vibe and (as another poster mentioned) seems to think nothing of sending those children off to their doom. He's probably not a pedo, but could definitely be a serial killer.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I never really got that vibe from the Willy Wonka movie but I did from the remake Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Maby it was amplified in the remake? As others said, it could be im just picking up the psychopathic tendencies from him.

Perhaps the Willy Wonka character in the movie versions seemed like a pedo, but from what I remember about the book, Wonka was a mean prick that basically liked to tortured kids with bad habits. Weird yes, but more interested in teaching a hard lesson to bratty little punks and their parents.

If anything the writers and directors gave the movie characters that pedo vibe, certainly not the fault of the actors who were trying to give life to the Wonka that the director wanted.

This thread my good sir is a farce, crude characterization and a ludicrously acrid sense of timing . Of all days to write such a thing you couldn't even wait a single day after the man died to use his death to increase your useless star count.

Nothing, Some people are just too sensitive. I don't see the problem with posting this question, considering his death is what made me re watch it. Considering peoples feelings before doing something is illogical, And i certainly don't care about a silly star count. People who do should go to reddit.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, that is what i meant. I was talking about the fictional character only, not the actor at all.

Can you explain how he had a creepy pedo vibe? Wonka was an odd guy, childlike himself...nothing sexual about him, either in the books or the movie. Just a wacky, brilliant recluse.

'sociopath member' I have learned here on ATS to temper my indignation on some of these Lame, provocative and ultimately libelous claims and dismiss them as cheap shot ploys to gain a couple extra stars, nothing more.

I find myself doing it here. Again. I would lend a jaundiced eye towards YOU much quicker than I would towards Gene Wilder aka Willy Wonka.

This make's me laugh a little, sadly in the real world we would be right to ask question's about this character with his very strong liking for small child like workers and strange way's.

But in reality this is just a character in a children's novel and has nothing to do with such deviant monsters.

So NO not the character he was just a story character no more perverted than peter pan (now that has me thinking - poor little tinkerbell)

I understand. When I replied I was just trying to make clear I wasn't blaming the actors for the way the character was portrayed. Just kind of supporting your point of view as not being disrespectful to the late Gene Wilder while relating to how the movies presented the Wonka character.

That's like saying Michael Jackson was aswell .

One is a fictional character...

The other was an eccentric millionaire who set up an amusement park in his back yard to lure in innocent victims...also paid out settlements (hush money) to actual accusers...in real life....
