I haven't either. We usually stay just outside Casa Grande when we're in town, so I'm hoping to catch it flying around one of the times were there.

We've got a C-17 doing a flyby tomorrow from the local Reserve group. I've got a few of the neighborhood kids excited about it.

As much as I love fighter flyovers, the big guys put on a good show.

I'm a C-130 fan, but the first time I saw a C-17 at an airshow, I was standing next to a couple UsAir pilots and heard them say "Damn!" Then the crew showed my nephew and his friends the cockpit. I have to look I have pictures of them in the cockpit with the screens lit up.

We got to go to Edwards during the testing phase, and got on the first aircraft built. A family friend was one of the program managers, so he gave us the grand tour. It's a really nice cockpit, and it's far more maneuverable than you realize for something that size.

Back in the late 80’s we were on detachment to Goose Bay with our GR1’s...at the weekend the CAF invited us down to their outdoor rec centre which basically was a log cabin with a bar and BBQ area and a large jetty with canoes etc...we were all on the jetty watching the seaplanes taking off and landing when one of these did a few flybys and pickups of water....he must of known we were all military as he was waving and waggling his wings at us....on his final low level pass over us he dumped his load of water over us and knocked us all off the jetty into the freezing cold lake....no fire retardant Chem’s in with it thank god...!! I can still see him laughing as he flew past once more to survey his handywork....good times!!!! !reply to: JIMC5499

A useless reply from me. But I think when I first saw a C-17 was either at Mildenhall air fete or at RAF Waddington for an airshow. I was still relatively young but fell in love with that fat dumpy body with its four engines. Then seeing it perform doing a short landing and backing itself up the runway. Last year air tattoo I got there early and managed to walk inside of a Qatar airways C-17 it was awesome

I got tossed off of Mildenhal in 87. I was in the Navy and had taken some leave while the ship was in Portsmouth. Then that moron off the Saratoga shot down an Air Force RF-4 who's parent command was based there. I was told to leave the base and report back to my ship. It was the second time I've been thrown off an Air Force base.

"I'm not part of this unit!" "What part of everybody don't you understand!"

Me sitting on a tow tug, towing a helicopter, waiting for a P-3 to get out of the way, when they broke the nose gear with a tug. I got tested.

I had a colleague who backed a ramp vehicle into another operators vehicle and drove off. It was reported and an airport safety car tracked down the offender. He got the obligatory piss test and stood down on full pay pending test results. Only problem was it happened Christmas eve so there was nobody to process the test. So the lucky bastard had basically a week off when he was supposed to be working because we were rostered on that year (seems we are rostered on almost every year). He got a phone call from a manager every day to ensure he was ok, "Of course I'm ok mate, my only dilemma is what time I need to start the BBQ for Christmas lunch!". Funnily enough his test result did come back with a low positive result but it turned out to be from some prescribed medication so he got off scot free. Like I said, lucky bastard.

I'm literally sitting here and wondering two things.
One, where were the wing walkers and why did it take so long to pull up the tug? Did the shuddering through the tow bar and screeching noise not raise a big enough hint?

Second, how long before some clown pops on here and utters the words "Oh that'll buff out!, lol...". Its the aviation equivalent of the dad joke that the offender thinks has never been thought of or uttered anywhere in history before. Ill put my money on either Blackfinger or FredT to do the honors because they know it will annoy me.

It wasn't a tow. They were prepping for launch, and pulled the aft chocks, but that row of the ramp has a slight dip in it, so even though they were idling, they rolled back, and weren't able to stop it before it hit the fence. Apparently just one of many mistakes made.

A different jet at the same base, in another incident-

They started the engine with the engine cover in place.

There were some pretty bad jokes on social media to that effect. Some pretty damn funny ones too though. "I picked a hell of a day to go off amphetamines" was one of the better ones.

Well a roll back I can kind of understand, especially if the guys in n the cockpit were task focussed on the engines running. But seriously how do you not look and see a bright orange engine cover? I wonder if they selected the wrong engine start lever? Although why you would ever put an aircraft onto a run bay or pushback without a cursory fronts and backs check is beyond me. I am constantly amazed and impressed by some people’s idiocy or complacency.

From what I understand, they pencil whipped I&E, and started engines to do a maintenance run. It also may have been more than one engine. The comment "N2 is a little low on 3&4, throttle up boys!" was made when talking about that one. Heh.

This was pretty amusing. Three DC-10s airborne in the world at the time, and all three were within about 100 miles of each other.
