My dad won't let me get anything for my Flight Simulator. I say, "I want to get a thermal printer for FSX to print out ACARS messages". He always says no. But he always suggests what I should buy. It's my money! He acts like I'll never use it. Bull crap! I want to make my simulator, not game, more realistic. The only thing I have for it is a flight stick. Not even a proper yoke.

And even when I suggest that I'll build the avionics and instruments myself, he says I shouldn't.

Now he wants me to buy a DSLR to make my aircraft photos better. I only go spotting once or twice a month. I'll never use that DSLR camera.

I don't know what to buy! He's always dictating what I shouldn't buy and should buy. He's always trying to prove me wrong, too! I say I can make actual aircraft instruments work with FSX. Of course he says I can't. There's how to guides, even books on how to do it! There's videos of them working!

The thing I need most is a NAV 1/NAV 2 radio stack. What can I do? I want to make FSX more realistic. I want to be able to create a proper throttle quadrant, proper rudder pedals, proper yoke, but no. "You shouldn't." He always wants to argue with me!

That was either a really funny reply because you got the joke or a really funny reply because you did not get the joke.

Listen to your father. Spend the money in a great trip/adventure with him. You'll always have time to get a simulator but your father won't be there forever.

What if you save enough money and, due to technological advances, can purchase a father simulator?

I probably would not get the Scott Peterson or Michael Lohan simulators.

Save your money. Retire at 35. Fly wherever the hell you want in a real plane that you own.

He always wants to be able to prove me wrong, even though I am correct!

And dad really never pays attention to me anymore. He only focuses on mom. "Oh, screw our son!"

I wasn't joking, man. It was my dream, minus the flying, and I'm a few years away from living it.

I always wanted a simple life; but if your dream is to fly, there's no reason you can't save for that. Don't let people push you into spending your money. Do your research, make your money work for you. It's all numbers in a computer anyways.

Here's what I did when I was your age. I bought a some lawn care equipment ... and started making big bucks. After that, I never told my parents how much money I had on-hand. It was more than they ever seemed to have.

Working my ass off taught me a lot of valuable lessons and made me physically stronger.

Then do it! Put that money away for university. When you blow the university away and get a scholarship, keep saving it.

When Boeing recruits you, get that bonus, invest it in something solid.

Live your dream.

I doubt he says that, but let me tell you something. Your Dad paying attention to your Mom is REALLY important and a very good thing. You're not going to be around very much longer, and when you leave, all they will have is each other. They are the most important people in each other's lives. You're second.

Hello LaFort! Nice to speak with you. Im guessing youre of a slightly younger age than the general membership? Thats cool! Never to soon to start learning and contributing to the world at large. Youre certainly welcome here.

Since you address the "parents" controlling spending...I can only offer you some points I think are valid. Parents generally are really (hard to believe or for you to see it this way yet)...just looking out for your best interests. Yes, its your $$ and although thats true, as long as you live with them, they will be looking out for your best interests with things. So I would listen at least with one ear, you know? Because they do care.

Look...some people have no parents to show any concern. Be glad yours at least care about you spending $$ in places you n me know they just dont understand. Why not explain why you want to, why its important, how it all works, how it can better your experience and help you learn more?

Maybe if they understood why and how come you want to spend it...they will support you doing so. If not, be patient, wait awhile...and dont nag... keep explaining why and how you'd better yourself with spending the $$. Maybe...they will come around after a bit.

Then again...maybe youll see why they dont support you spending your $$ after awhile. They either will...or youll find they were right.(Yes...hard to believe...but parents can be right!).

So, dont pressure, be patient, try to explain the why you want these things...and you might be surprised!.

Cya round the forums! Best of luck! Mysterioustranger
