I am all for spin-offs, changing characters to make them PC is wrong. The new Iron Man is a 15yo black girl. Perfectly fine. Tony Stark is still the same old white dude he always was.

It wouldn't be the first spin-off.
I mean common, it's a wide franchise outside the movies, and the changing appearances.
We're not talking about the Old Testament here.
It's not exactly sacrilege to have a "gay Bond brother" or parallel franchise.

I don't see it as PC if there's a new audience.
It's capitalism.

Nowadays simply being a man attracted to men without other gender issues is almost reactionary.
That's no longer the vanguard of pc.
Then you'd need a transgender Bond.

But yeah, I gather you won't like it.

Bond doesn't have a brother and Bond is a person. You can have a 00 agent, you can't have Bond. If the owners of the IP want to make a gay 00 agent they can go for it, that is not what this post is about. Apparently EVERYTHING has to be gay or it's proof of homophobia.

The films are also noted for Bond's relationships with various women, who are sometimes referred to as "Bond girls".

Let's just destroy one of if not THE defining trait of Bond though to please the gay lobby.

I meant that as an "an agent brother", not a blood-brother.
Forget about gay as the vanguard of pc.
Men simply attracted to men are virtually reactionary these days.
You'd need a trans-Bond for that (I'm not gonna argue that though - beyond my thing).

But as far as good ole capitalism goes, yeah, I'd watch a dapper Bond side-show who's masculine and attracted to men.
It's already in there anyway, if you know where to look.
But sure they wanna sell stuff to everybody.
Always have, and the franchise has always been called "immoral".
It's probably the closet thing in popular culture reflecting social change, and approaching rock music rebellion in the guise of a gentleman since some of the libertine poets.

Ah ok, well like I said they can do whatever they want within the Bond universe, and make other 00 agents gay. Like you said capitalism. Unfortunately that is not enough for the gay lobby, many will scream homophobia unless Bond himself is gay. That level of PC craziness disgusts me.

I would be more likely to watch a different IP with a gay agent than the Bond IP with a gay 00 agent just because to me that is a sign of PC craziness, and I can't support that. It's not the fact an agent is gay, it's that it was forced compliance.

I'm not sure how much I can identify with the leftist "lgbti" movement anymore either, and there are rifts and splits.

Politically James Bond is rather conservative as a character.
He is in his Majesty's service after all.

That shouldn't sit well with anti-imperialist leftists anyway.

Like I said, they should first oppose homophobia in Islamic and socialist cultures, before they can appropriate Mr. Bond in any way.

If there is any Mr. Bond, he could be morally labile, but he'd have to be staunchly politically loyal.
Some queer people like me could cope with that, but the leftist masses would spit him out as a "neo-colonialist Imperialist" anyway.

But most people just watch it for the gadgets - they are not true Bondologists.

Strange, I was reading a biography of Freddie Mercury the other day (not with me right now; back at the library).
He always said the music of Queen should be non-political.
OK, now one can argue whether "non-political" is ever truly possible.
Probably not, we're all in this together politically in some way.
But he wrote more on love and personal triumph and tragedy and so forth.

But the fact is he never made a song that said we're gonna break stuff and make raa-raa.
He also didn't believe in musical boycotts.
Actually they were much criticized by the rock press at that time for this stance.
Mostly by people now forgotten, whereas Queen is still big, and they've done many benefits for HIV/AIDS and so forth.

But Freddy's personal views were loyal to the Queen, apparently.
His family were minority Parsees chased out of Zanzibar by revolutionaries and Islamists.
He knew what they could do, and Britain took them in.

His sexuality is also unclear.
Seen by many as "gay", his tunes were hardly played in most gay clubs.
He was actually bisexual and lived with a woman for much of his life.
He never labelled himself.

Funny thing is, while reading this all, I thought a character based on him would have made the perfect "super spy", or a bisexual rendition of Mr. Bond.

If a mainstream Bond came out who was openly gay, I can tell you now it won't be conservatives standing there with posters outside the cinemas.

It will be the leftists, with posters like: "Stop Pinkwashing Imperialism!"; "Bonded To Capitalist Facism? I actually thought about it before I typed it.

I knew it wasn't objectively or literally correct but wanted the emotional impact of it. I was mostly being tweaky, ornery.
