Well even in the theory you support (fine with me) you could have a gay Bond, if M16 suddenly said they were using his original name for a duplicate Bond, or they would now use it as a code-word for other agents.
It might not be the original Bond, but an appended Bond.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's cheap erotica like that already since the 1970's, and if it's a sub-genre in gay porn.
I actually haven't checked, and that's beyond ATS.

But I don't need a "gay Bond", there's lots of camp and queer moments in the other ones (without the character himself being "gay").
But that all depends on the audience and eye of the beholder.

But as far as the OP is concerned, yeah sure there could be side-characters that could be more reflective of a more open and equal society nowadays.
Or even missions to free fellow agents in less equal societies.
I'm not sure how that would go down with leftist audiences either, since they like socialist and Islamist fascism more than they like lgbt people, and it would probably be banned in all the homophobic countries and ideologies the queer left usually, and ironically supports.

The OP should consider it's a very delicate matter, and these movies have to sell and push products not only in Europe and North America, but a whole range of largely homophobic spheres of the globe, where little has changed since the 1960's.
And due to leftist open door policies, these homophobic ideologies are now pushing into the Western sphere too.

But I'm happy with Mr. Bond as is.
Not every actor, but certainly the character, and I can read him my way.

I'm not sure if the producers can be expected to have an openly gay Bond, when the movies have a multi-million Dollar budget, and then they're banned or censored to pieces in half the world, and don't make much income.

Before that happens the left that shouts "homophobia" in Western countries must first challenge and get rid of homophobia in those cultures and countries.

Oh and I'm not being PC or anything I think Daniel Craigs Bond does flirt with other Men in his movies it is subtle but thats the feeling I have.

Easy, you just say, you are not the original Mr. Bond, but for intelligence purposes we shall call you "James Bond".
More like a spin-off, or parallel franchise.
It would have to be really good to work though.
Then we could have an openly gay Bond, and leave the original intact.

It would be lower budget, because it might not sell or be restricted/censored in homophobic parts of the world.
James Bond is a global franchise, and not all countries or ideologies have radically changed to accept open homosexuality.
That's one thing the OP should consider.
It will have a smaller turnover and marketing potential for products.
It may even lead to boycotts (I could think of 11 countries immediately).

It could still be classic though.
