No confirmation about anything yet (from what i can see)

When did that ever have much to do with anything?

Nothing is confirmed - either way. And it is a conspiracy forum.

So, the conspiracy is that some kids made a firework together?

Have you ever looked at the statistics for fireworks injuries?

Please. I'm sure the NYPD would love to run with that narrative and they would have already if there was any shred of evidence.

Imagine a couple of kids that age having a conversation:

"Dude, this is going to be awesome! The reverb in here is going to be hella cool!"
"I know, bro! Imma set it off, get ready!"

< BOOM >

"HOLY S#, HE BLEW HIS FOOT OFF! OMG, OMG!"
"Quick, go get help! And don't say s#, play deaf, dumb & blind! Don't want to get in trouble for this!"

That really is not outside the realm of possibility for happening.

Hm. Not convinced it was malicious judging by their statements.

Most assumptions i have made are based off there statments, i was that age many years ago and i did many "boy things". When i got caught?....i dont know what happened. But if something that was nothing to do with me happened i could tell you what it was..

Based on all information my assumption is....

When they jumped off the rock it was dropped and exploded.

If the kids made a firework that was pressure sensitive, I am not surprised that an appendage was severely damaged.
I would have expected the appendage to be a hand instead of a foot.

There are not a lot of explosive materials which kids would have access to which are that unstable.

Wait, mentos and diet coke!

Yeah, I know. My friends at that age were equally stupid (sword fighting with those launcher ones, lit....idiots) I was the kind of teenager who sat back & watched the pre-hold-my-beer training runs happen. I'm kinda surprised no one was killed.

They could easily made the firework themselves with a trigger.

A firework with a contact trigger?
Why?

Nevermind. Boys.
Are they Muslim?

Lieutenant Mark Torre, commanding officer of the bomb squad, suggested that the device was made by someone with knowledge of chemistry, but said the result of the explosion seems to have been accidental rather than deliberate. "There is some forsenic evidence that indicates that it was not meant to go off by somebody stepping on it," Torre said. "It may have not gone off at an earlier time and was just left there."

how does it go off at an earlier time, then go off again?

Not sure what your point is, that there's some speculation? That's quite clear in the context of the statement.

My point was that Stormdancer777 seemed to have missed a word in the statement.

The answer is, the statement does not say it went off at an earlier time. Because that obviously makes no sense.

It us a bit of a stupid statement.
Of course it didn't go off earlier if it went off later.

Sherlock and his buddies at the NYPD will get to the bottom of this... if they don't they will issue a statement to tell us that they may have... or not.

First off I smile and act kindly to those around me. I find this to be sufficient in almost all cases.
Secondly I avoid situations where large numbers of people will be conglomerated and very likely drinking and being high as these combinations can be volatile. Especially now when everyone is on edge and spoiling for a fight.
I also do not flip people off any more as that simple gesture can escalate many minor encounters.
But then I do have my twelve gauges too.

My guess is that the speculation is that it was a dud. There was no kaboom when first tried so it was abandoned.
Duds are scary.

Yes, that is where they were going with the statement, but they could have went with a different structure on the sentence to make it clearer.

It most likely is a case of homemade fireworks. If we see a lot more cases like it, that might change my mind.
