After all the time they had with the moon photos, you would have thought they could have got these right first time

Also, if you are not aware, the NASA put up a picture of Titan yesterday, then quickly removed it. No comment was made about the picture, and even the messages about the picture being removed have been removed.

Someone made reference to this here:

"One image that NASA posted on its site was taken down immediatly. And the ESA (i think thats what they are abbreviated as) refuses to post the image on their website"

perhaps they left the number on the rocks showing again

Wow i'd love to see this mysterious photo! If anyone comes across this photograph that was removed please post and i will vote you way above da shiznizzle!

I believe that is how some of our youth would refer to it

I think it looks like a small rock casting its own shadow.

I was able to get some higher resolution images today...

Here is the original image with the anomalous shadow indicated:

Here is the image after I color balanced it...looks like someone applied an orange tint to a black-and-white photo...to me:

omg not more shadows going in the wrong direction

do people think that the sun only shines from one direction and thats the only direction the shadows will be cast. if you know anythink about the sun you will notice it doesnt just have one little beam of light, it shines up the whole sky making shadows cast north, east, south and west depending on their positions. these photos don't look altered to me, the shadows sometimes seem to be coming towards us, and sometimes away from us. i think if shadows were not cast this way then im sure those guys at nasa would just make all the shadows go in the same direction.

Now I'm not claiming to be super scientifically sound, but i do have some skepticism. For instance.

CONS:
-Could wind have created a sand pocket around the rock creating the perception of the anomalous reverse shadow. (If there is wind on Titan)

-Could this anomalous shadow be a small rock distorted by a low resolution picture?

PROS:
- Why would NASA/ESA immediately remove the picture?

I gave you a vote Geneticus for conspiracy potential. Good work m8

The Sun occupies a width of 1/2 degree in the sky. That means that the sun's rays that reach the Earth can be as much as 1/2 a degree off from one another. From Titan, obviously the Sun would take up a much smaller amount of the sky. That means the sun's rays that arrive at Titan will be nearly parallel. Essentially, the sun's ray DO all travel in the same direction.

I'll tell you what tipped me off initially was not the shadow, it was the texture. Notice how in the area immediately to the top/left of the shadow, the texture is very blurred. This does not match the area directly to the left and right in which the texture is lumpy.

Sure the shadow could be a rock, a meteor, or somebodies Starbucks that spilled. But the anomalous shadow combined with the strange blurring of texture leave an outstanding question in my mind...is the picture tampered.

Also, I am sure this picture is not the one that was taken down. Whatever picture NASA took down yesterday is still not available. Their suspicious behavior only hightens my curiosity.

I notice that the suspected "out of place shadow" is situated right along one of the photo bands (i.e. notice the multiple vertical lines that go up and down the entire photo?). Its almost as if this picture wasn't taken as a hole, but in long strips. If the ESA put the photo together, they could have easily either mismatched or misbalanced the gestalt.

Geneticus, you're going to have to at least mention the design of the photographic machinery of the probe. Since you are obviously proposing that the photo was altered to remove something (post-processing), could you please present your evidence as it pertains to the technical design of the photographic equipment?

How could NASA possibly be stupid enough in the first place to put a picture to the public and then take it back. Surely if they wanted to hide things they could do better than that and not make such awful mistakes? only my opinion, but hey some ones got to have it.

There are multiple photos of this same scene.
Someone was interested enough to put together an animated gif of the whole series. Due to the HUGE amount of artifacting with these tiny compressed images, I'm not convinced this is anyone hiding anything..

here is the animated gif..

all of a sudden we're photography experts with degrees in photography...it must have been tampered with because supposedly nasa took down a picture...any proof? shadows going the wrong way...well to me they all seem to be coming towards as to where the picture was taken meaning the sun would be coming from around straight ahead. i don't see any problems with these.

HUYGENS IMAGERY EQUIPMENT...

Huygens is equiped with 6 equipment packages:

Aerosol Collector and Pyrolyser (ACP)
Descent Imager/Spectral Radiometer (DISR)
Doppler Wind Experiment (DWE)
Gas Chromatograph and Mass Spectrometer (GCMS)
Huygens Atmosphere Structure Instrument (HASI)
Surface Science Package (SSP)

The DISR is the one that is taking the pictures:

"DISR measures solar radiation using silicon photodiodes, a two-dimensional silicon Charge Coupled Device (CCD) detector and two InGaAs near-infrared linear array detectors."

i think i hit the wrong button the first time so my aplogies if this same thing is floating around where it shoudent be but

it's re-touched, i do re touches and there is a very hard edge right in the area, it's a rectangle it's very easy to see. also did anyone notice the object in the top right corner. maybe it's the aliens that are cleaning the craft.
it's from this web site, he's a graphic designer (duh)

I must agree about the missing picture(s)...

I was very excited to see some pics from Titan. While waiting in anticipation, I kept bouncing around sites checking for recent info.... The first article I read on CNN mentioned a pictures that were posted then "quickly removed". Immediately I thought "oh no, here we go again"... so I went directly to ATS to see if anyone here "saw these pics" or heard about the "removal" of these pics. Nothing.

Perhaps 20 mins?? went by before I went back to CNN to grab the link to post here... but I couldn’t find it again. Strange.

The light is coming from the top/left. The strange shadow has to be either from a second light source coming from the right, or the object that produced the shadow has been photomanipulated out of the picture. That is the main thing that looks suspicious. The fact that a NASA picture is posted and quickly removed is an indication of a cover-up.

I have been trained by leading experts including one of the nation's top NASA physicists in color correction, and I am an expert in photomanipulation.

what's the point in space exploration... are we really going to try and disprove anything and everything nasa does. when we send people to mars, and they land, there's video footage...are we going to say, woah hold the phone, can anyone else see that tiny little letter thing on that rock, cant you see the shadows are all wonky, omg that flag is fluttering!!!

i see no evidence of retouching at all. ive done the odd retouching on video and photos but if they have retouched it then why no just make all the shadows go in the same direction so conspiracy theorists have less to point out that's wrong about the photo.
