. . . it wasn't brought in by the EU it was the baby of Tony Blair , it was one of the few good things he did before he turned into a destroyer of countries.

Thanks for the correction. Blair's minimum wage wasn't mandated by the EU, but it did reflect the influence of the EU. It brought Britain into line with European standards, according to Trade Unions and the State: The Construction of Industrial Relations by Chris Howell, P.181.

I don't for one minute believe that are are thousands of these incidents happening in every single corner of the UK, or that gangs of EDL thugs are on every corner and in every town "rounding up foreigners" but I absolutely do believe that there will have been a spike in these kind of incidents and that not all of these are made up.
There is photographic and video evidence there too, not all are anecdotal.

If you don't think that there is a lot of hate and intolerance "National Pride" floating about... then I think you're naive.

I think a lot of the confrontational stories and videos on You Tube, etc., were very influential. I still have the image of a young Muslim woman at a "situation" in France saying, "We only bow down to Allah."

I think the facts of friction with the Muslims in the UK, even if blown out of proportion, must have had a significant effect on the referendum.

Love to see it. The media in the UK is diverse and in most cases highly intolerant of EDL et al. I very much doubt EDL activities would have been covered up.

Anything, or anyone who criticises immigration is pilloried and ridiculed by the leftist-leaning brigades that inhabit London and other hubs (e.g. Edinburgh). This is why policy-makers should not be surprised that people like Farage persist as they challenge the constructed worldview that emanates from London. Farage is only a joke in London comedy clubs.

Pleb democracy is fundamentally flawed.
If you examine how the miracle of aggregation works you find that the selection process relies on 50:50 split
between the uninformed mass (pro and con) and the remainder being the enlightened minority that tips the vote.
To get this coin split on the uninformed you would have to reduce selection bias and that gets VERY complicated.
Before you start shouting at me and invoking a logical fallacy "What does?" I suggest you start reading about the miracle.

Just the beginning

Curiously, a nation that had an empire that the sun never set on is complaining about immigrants.

Sadly, the disenfranchised and those of low intelligence who voted 'leave' aren't going to be better off. A lot of the promises will be empty.

I want my country back

There’s not enough tea in the entire nation to help us Keep Calm and Carry On today. Not on a day when prejudice, propaganda, naked xenophobia and callous fear-mongering have won out over the common sense we British like to pride ourselves on. Not on a day when we’re being congratulated by Donald Trump, Marine Le Pen, and nobody else. Well done, turkeys. Santa’s on his way.

am I to understand that the disenfranchised and those of low intelligence were the only ones who voted leave? that is quite an insult.

the reality from my perspective is that most who approached me prior to this referendum were disillusioned by both the eu and the then current political current. working class revolt? yes I agree. the working class voted and the result is in.
perhaps if all the economists/politicians/bankers et al who wreaked havoc upon the ordinary people hadn't committed such crimes then we wouldn't be in this position.

regarding the new statesmen article I want my country back, such lamentations should occur on the threshold of parliament rather than spewing it to those who wish to wallow in it.

get productive and make this work for the betterment of everyone although at the moment I perceive that the leave camp will act up and scream like spoiled brats hoping to get what they want.

Yeah, it's a good one isn't it!

The voting trends point towards this.

Some of this is crazy.... I hope it dies down soon.
It seems, for now anyway, that racism and xenophobia have been legitimised.

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk...

Yeah, cos none of those people would make any of it up, would they?

I was down Glos Tesco (The market one) and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I can promise you that if I'd seen some one spouting rubbish like that there would have been a scrap.

It's the same tired narrative of brexit voters being racist scum. Open your eyes and see past the lies.

Glad to see that the UK has people who like to play blind, deaf and dumb to racist behavior just like we do here in the states.

Maybe instead of letting them vote you would like to euthanise them?

Someone else tried that once and ordinary people from the uk and the commonwealth and the US put a stop to that too.

I saw a report and you can look it up but title was Britons furiously googling "what is the EU?" after voting to leave it. There were trolls all over the British press pushing people to EXIT. They began a fear campaign and it worked. That Boris fellow reminds me an awful lot of our Donald and he is from the USA, probably graduated from a Trump University.....sheesh

my answer to people who approached me on the European issue a priori to the referendum was do some research on the matter. at the moment certain media outlet (uk) is bias in favour of the assertion that the public were hoodwinked. far from it imo.

direct democracy occurred and I pity those that cannot accept this. may they live forever

as for boris, I fail to see any similarities and besides, has a better hairday.

As I'm not part of the choice more than half of the British population made. And if it's all been pushed on them as some sort of political propaganda to chose independence . But , maybe something is up at hand here?

Maybe the mainland of Europe will soon be attacked by something, something we don't yet know is the making , and the referendum was just, after all, being staged to imply after all the wars and the massive immigration floods.

And just at the right moment to sail on the dissatisfaction of the people to pull out this referendum , so that now the UK got loose from all it's obligation to, later on, be asked to help the rest of Europe that maybe now will be want to do the same to get loose of the EU .

Maybe when every nation within the EU has rolled the dice, and divided in fear .It then all begins and something terrible will happen to us , something you and I don't know yet but , has been set in motion ?

I hope I'm wrong but , something doesn't feel right . And that's not the Brexit .

If that's the case, then we will be in a far better position to help once we are out.

Everything the EU touches turns to dross and I have far more faith in our military to do the right thing free of interference from people who always have an eye on the EU project.

Classic stuff! Give the people the choice for freedom and then scare them back into submission.

It is easier to slaughter a sheep that chooses to go to the butcher than the one that runs to the forest.

I read earlier that it was actually only 37% of the eligible voting population that voted for this as there obviously wasn't a 100% voter turnout.
Still a slight majority of those who did actually vote were in favor of leaving so - that's that I guess!

That's nice to know that you still have this feeling but, what if it really happens and let's say many Europeans want to flee to your country because we now are in danger. They will close the borders if too many want to save their families . A handful will be lucky but most will suffer. Not that it's cruel but , its how it always goes with humans and those who are against more refugees coming to their country .

But it's just speculation nothing more , improbably far off

Depends on the nature of the calamity. Either way, people at some point have to take responsibility for themselves. We did, just enough of us educated ourselves enough to get out of the EU.

If other Europeans don't want to do the same then there's not much we can do about that.

I hear many rumors . and the media over here are going crazy about a Nextit, here in the Netherlands. I wouldn't be surprised that our country will be next soon. Partitions are being held as we speak and 54989 have signed for this and still counting ..

Maybe it's also a sign that interest rates should be adjusted but , they actually can't so they find a way to solve this major problem to put us into another financial crisis?
