I'm going to be so disappointed if he bought it on ebay. The story was so cool.

right in front of me. I was sitting outside when I see this rock slam into the dirt. Its possible that a bird dropped it from the sky but that's not the reason why I am posting this on here. The rock looks strange and not like any rock i've seen before. What could this be?

DONT TOUCH IT!

That looks to me like a "Boeing Bomb"

Nice find. If that is indeed a Meterorite, Mama could very well be close behind.

But lets not jump to that conclusion just yet.

The velocity would be the determining factor, not the distance.

Very interesting find Op
do you recall hearing or seeing any aircraft above or near by?
Outside of the meteorite theory, considered it could of fell from something flying above that was attached to some aircrafts or may of even been dropped from a bird flying above.
Does it float in water Op?

My only red flag was you said there are many similar looking rocks in the yard.

Of all the places in the galaxy to land ?

It lands around similar looking rocks ?

I hope I'm wrong...

Meteorite prices differ depending on how common the material and place of origin.

Size isn't always an indication of worth. Rare ones are sold by the slice to researchers.

Meteor hunters like places like Antarctica...Where you can look out across a sheet of snow and ice and quickly know a rock that stands out in contrast is not natural on top of all the ice.

Otherwise...small meteorites fall often in wooded areas, fields etc. etc. but easily go unnoticed. in dirt, brush, forest or even city environments.

Seeing one land like that is like winning the lottery twice IMO.

If it was me...I'd get it checked out...If it was worth a gob of money sell it after multiple opinions...if not, make a piece of jewelry out of it and wear it.

S-word, that's awesome! You didn't just find it, but saw it fall and land! Sure, appraisal would be interesting, but that's a family heirloom! Make sure you build up an overblown mythology behind it for your future great great great great great grand-cyborgs!!

I don't know what it is. But seeing as how this is ATS, I'm pretty sure it means we're all doomed.
