Pastor refuses to mourn Orlando victims: ‘The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die’.

Following the deadliest shooting in U.S. history, a Baptist preacher stood at his pulpit Sunday night in Northern California and delivered an impassioned sermon praising the brutal massacre at a gay nightclub in Florida.

Pastor Roger Jimenez from Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento told his congregation that Christians “shouldn’t be mourning the death of 50 sodomites.”

“People say, like: Well, aren’t you sad that 50 sodomites died?” Jimenez said, referencing the initial death toll in Orlando, which authorities later clarified included 49 victims plus the gunman.

“Here’s the problem with that. It’s like the equivalent of asking me — what if you asked me: Hey, are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?’

“Um, no, I think that’s great. I think that helps society. You know, I think Orlando, Fla., is a little safer tonight.”

He added: “The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die. The tragedy is — I’m kind of upset that he didn’t finish the job!”

People argue this point with me but I contend that the main issue is not with people but with religion.

Because religion (at-least the Abrahamic faiths Judaism Christianity and Islam) say, in no uncertain terms, that sodomy is a capital offense.

A religious person is faced with a challenge because he is then told that "these are God's words".

Homosexuality aside, if people were to follow these faiths as a whole, without picking and choosing, the world would look a lot more like Moslem countries.

And I think its safe to say that no one wants that.

The guy is obviously an asshole and we should not judge all people that are religious by his comments.

But I will pray to Cthulhu that he falls into a volcano.

Yep...religion.

We end more violence by ending the war on drugs and exposing religious belief for the poison it is to critical thinking.

I hope someone slaps him.

Baptists are some of the most hypocritical of the Christian sects. Makes me cringe that I used to associate as one.

This POS also apparently said:

"The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die. The tragedy is I’m kind of upset he didn’t finish the job – because these people are predators.
"I wish the government would round them all up, put them up against a firing wall, put the firing squad in front of them and blow their brains out,"
.

But hey, he has the right to freedom of speech, as despicable as he is, and I accept his right to be an intolerant, hateful pile of # in America.

Of course, had a Muslim Imam said this, oh god the uproar. The ATS gang and all the other hypocrites would be once again calling for the eradication of all Muslims with venomous vehemence.

Hypocrisy and double standards, much?

People disgust me.

I hope and pray his congregation walks out on him for that, I know I would go back church shopping if he was my preacher.

Well this what freedom of religion and free speech looks like in the hands of dumb arse people.

Still he is exercising his right inside his church, even if we don't agree with this individual as long as he doesn't go on a killing spree we are safe.

Baptist?

That just tells me he is up there behind his pulpit preaching against something with all the fire and brimstone emotion he can muster, then probably doing the very thing he's preaching against. Organized religion is the bane of humanity.

True that. I also was raised southern baptist, but knew it was always BS since I was a kid. A large segment of my family is Baptist, still.

Recently, I heard the story of how a black couple went to the local (predominantly white) Baptist church in the very small southern town in which I live, and the couple was approached by a member of the church (pastor, deacon, I'm not sure) who told them, "The African American church is just down the road."

Yup.

And then we wonder why radical mullahs are allowed to spread their hate in American cities.

Free speech can and will get dicey results.

Ya know...?

How is he so sure they practiced sodomy? Was he watching what they did in private? That's pretty gross of him.

That's the thing - this pastor is at odds with Jesus' teaching.

Whereas Mohammed says kill gay people

If there are self identifying Christians intent on actually killing gay people, then we're talking extreme outliers, a tiny fraction of Christendom - whereas 11 islamic countries have the death penalty for homosexuality

So lets not pretend there's anything approaching moral equivalence here.

What a deluded fool to believe that radical Islamic terrorists would stop at gays - little does he know that he and his followers are next on their hit list.
