So can anyone enlighten me on why some members are calling the pope a complete loon and seem to find him to be so unbelievably crazy and un-popeish recently???

Don't ask me. I'm fallen away Catholic , but I'm actually listening to what the new Pope has to say.

He doesn't echo the words of the Religious Right and have been the complete opposite, in fact. His opinions regarding compassion and tolerance sound like what a true Christian would believe.

Don't forget the warning to be cautious of items purchased at thrift stores. According to Mr. Robertson, they could come with spirits attached to them.

Not the most uncaring thing he's said, but it's way up there near the front of the Crazy Train.

Interestingly enough, that's a belief shared by a lot of paranormal experts who would be considered "pagans" by Robertson.

Same here. I was thinking Pope and Mega Church pastors ... the NWO guys.

What did the pope do or say recently that has you guys all wound up exactly??? I must have missed it.

Who are the Mega Church pastors you're talking about??? Like Creflo Dollar or somebody like that??

Anyone who teaches a doctrine that trends toward a 'Cosmic Christ" third testament style of spirituality is suspect. Joel Osteen is one of the most well-known offenders, but a lot of the mega church set are in the same crowd. Their brand of religion is more self-help and not Bible-centered, and it fits in well with the teachings of New Age gurus like Deepak Chopra.

Because it's accurate? I don't know about "un-popish," but the man is a socialist idiot.

That's how it seems to me too. I haven't known a pope to be as vocal about helping the poor and being compassionate toward people and their differences in a long time. I always figured that was what a pope was supposed to say. Help the weak. Feed the Hungry. Give to the poor. etc.

Interesting how it's the Right Wing Christians who can't stand that message for some reason. I always thought that was the message.

I saw a recent thread about him being a "Jesuit", the first "Jesuit Pope", just an observation might not be why

Cosmic Christ??? That's a new one I've never heard. What does that mean??? What's a 3rd Testament??

I know of Joel Osteen. Can't think of what I've seen of him lately but he does look familiar. I'll have to check him out and see what you mean.

There is a lot of New Age Guru Christianity going around. Actually it's not just Christian either. I think it's just what happens when people of some religion decided they don't want to follow it the way they used to so they update it with some new agey stuff like crystals and Vibrations and stuff. Plus it's always good for selling some more merchandise that way too.

It depends on how you package it.

Venezuela's current situation was caused by a socialist strongman whose message was "Help the weak. Feed the hungry. Give to the poor. Etc." We can see where that got the country now. They are in the middle of a disaster where the whole country is falling apart and there is no one to help anyone down there.

I very much like helping people, but I like to decide when, where, and how this happens.

I very much resent it when someone like you empowers a strongman to come into my house and say, "You need to help others, so we will be taking a substantial portion of everything you have and we will decide how best to distribute it."

And then you call it "sharing." I call it theft, especially when the lion's share of what is taken actually goes to pay for all the bureaucrats to administer the system that oversees the distribution so that only the smallest part of what they take from me goes to anyone who didn't have enough.

The best example I have seen on religious BS is on the Louis theroux interviews with a cult in america then followed up a couple years later.

Everything bad that happens is gods wraith and "he's gonna eat your babies". Great TV and an insight into how gullible people in secluded communities can be.

Now that the Christian Right has adopted "The Gospel according to Trump" and thrown Christ under the bus; It should be a wild ride down the theological rabbit hole.

Still they need to ramp up their game to compete with Palin's off the wall approach. Should be entertaining none the less....

What does Venezuela's Socialist Government have to do with why the Pope is making you mad???

Obviously there is more to that country collapsing than them actually "Helping the weak, Feeding the Hungry and Giving to the Poor." Are you saying that by doing those things, that is what caused all their trouble???

When did I empower a strongman to do something to you also??? I was asking about the Pope and that's it.

The only pastors I've trusted are those who live in modest homes in regular neighborhoods.

Left the last church after finding out that the Pastor used our "donations to the Lord" to build a 3.2 million dollar home in a secretive gated community for himself.

The church I attended before that one took in $1.2 million in "love offerings" that year, and paid the family (himself, two adult sons, and a cousin) $853,000 of that in salaries.

Creflo Dollar came to the church. People ran up the alter and threw lots of money at the guy for over an hour while he spoke. Unreal.

They totally soured me on organized religion.

Ya think. Its the most demented thing I've ever seen. It's huge though. There's millions in north America that ascribe to this wacky stuff.
