Well, as a newbi on ATS for less than 1 month i need to voice my comment. I'm astonished at the "low level" mentality comments of many members. It's like a "cat fight" in the back ally, back and forth on most subjects. Picky here and picky there, negative here and negative here. I ask WHY does this mentality exist? Members have a great outlet with ATS to voice their constructive comments, objections and personal points of view. I would appreciate any VALID comments, maybe i'm missing something about ATS........

What? You mean you are shocked that a popular internet forum that deals with fringe, extreme and popular subjects has people bickering and being silly? Shock!

Grow a thicker skin my friend.

Once you get the hang of this, it will all make sense. The fact that I am always right should become readily apparent. Once you have a handle on that, we can move on to how wrong everyone else is.

You're supposed to wait until we break them in a little longer before you reveal that.

Sorry, I thought it was 1 month. They told me at the last meeting is was 1 month.
now I feel so..........deflated.

That's alright. We just can't have every Tom, Dick, and Harry knowing we have an omniscient entity among us. Imagine the fallout ND.

obviously you are right, as always. "wink wink, nudge nudge"

You now know exactly what ATS is about. A few interesting people with interesting experiences and ideas and then the rest.
The rest have turned this place into a battleground for tough guys, machismo splashing brawlers. Me? I'm addicted. You? Run away before it is to late.
Everyday I read some of what others here call debate or whatever and I tell myself to blow this hell hole but so far I haven't. Maybe the only reason I have been hanging on here is to yell and scream at you to get out get out get out before it's to late.

Remember: Truth < Vindication on the internet, always.
Oh and outrage. We loves our outrage.

What qualifies as negativity?

imho, the OP was talking about habitual gritchy contrarian whining, carping, throwing rocks just to be throwing rocks--NOT--merely pointing out a flaw in an argument or something.

Thinly veiled assaultiveness because others have not conformed their world view and construction on reality to one's own is an attachment disordered insecurity based dysfunctional pattern of relating. It is not an authentic constructive dialogue to sort our relative merits of a position or argument. It is an attempt to verbally batter the world into one's own image in order to feel safer and more secure.

It is a variation on a 2 year old throwing a fit.

Did you see how quickly we all came together, whether we disagreed or not?

That's why we're here. That's why we stay.

I mostly agree about the thicker skin--to a point.

HOWEVER, THAT STANCE and attitude means

that

the particularly sensitive folks should stay away and not stick their sensitive heads enough above ground level to be shot at.

I don't think that's fitting, wise nor civil.

We need all perspectives here--even those of the thin-skinned and particularly sensitive, imho. It is highly likely that the particularly sensitive see things that others of us don't. Sometimes, that 'seeing other things' might be priceless, even life saving to all of us.

Sad to say but over the years the IQ level has dropped here, there are still a few people who are gems, but the good news is you will soon learn to recognise the people whos shoe size is bigger than there IQ and seem to spend most of there time making there hand pregnant

You know, I agree with you and yet I don't.

I think that we all found something valuable here and we greedily want to change it from a "one size fits all" to a perfect personal fit. But I don't think the goal of ATS is to be all things to all people. And don't forget, ATS is us, period.

I had an odd dream many years ago. I found myself to be a puppet on a string. There was some odd music in the background and I found myself dancing to that music. Then the music changed and the dance changed. And this kept repeating. I got quite angry to realize that I was being controlled by these strings attached to me, that were themselves controlled by that music. I got really angry, in fact. I tried desperately not to move...not to be controlled by these outside forces.

For what it's worth, I have come to see something like that play out almost on a daily basis across the board. There are days when everyone is sort of doing a happy dance, and days of anger or arguments or despair. And it seems that everything that is "out there" gets amplified "in here" so that I am learning when to post and when not to. In fact, now is one of those in between times, so forgive me while I quickly close this odd dissertation.

Yes, it does take a tough skin as others have said, and yes the natives do seem to get a little more riled up with the elections.
Just so you know though, there will be more (fill in your own word here) soon as school is about to be out for summer. Think they make you crazy now???

The time to really see this place come together though sadly, is when a big disaster happens. Like when a plane goes missing for example. Then you will see some awesome detective work and the members really on the ball.

Even those that pay the Piper, dances to his tune.

Once we had a chance, we blew it.

Now we can't hide from the music.

Even if we turn it off.

You can't have been around the Internet much at all.

ATS is actually nicer by many magnitudes that a lot of places, and given the kinds of topics under discussion here, we play together reasonably nicely.

Some of us who snipe at one another can even manage to like each other on non-controversial topics.

Agreed. Mildly irritating as it is to have ones post removed by mods, it serves it's purpose well. ATS is one of the most civilised boards I've ever seen .

Just wanted to say that I love how you guys across the pond use the word "piss" as if it's universal for so many things. We have the same universal words here too just not the word piss. At least it's not as universal as it is where your from.

Anyway, that's it.
