I did actually enjoy some of those readings even though I didn't believe many of them.

The thing is, nowadays opportunities to explore the madness of the membership are immediately squelched with cries of this-fallacy-or-that, ad homs and other insults, deflections and general douchebaggery.

The real nuts (where the good stuff is) are afraid to say anything because the humanists will beat them to death with dogmatic empiricism and shout them out of the forums.

I know it's a disappointment.

I tried starting a thread on synchronicity and the first two pages of post were completely cynical skepitcism and ad homs.

I gave up on the philosophy forum, sad times we are headed for.

I agree somewhat. Ive always gone straight to the NEW forum and thats where you find all the political stuff and others too. I think now Im going to just visit those forums Im interested in: make a list...and perhaps avoid the NEW THREADS from now on.

The NEW THREAD Forum sure doesnt give an accurate representation of the site itself...so Im gonna try the other way...

I could tell you exactly what happened to a plethora of posters as I am in contact with many of my favorites but the admin would frown upon that and I wouldn't blame them.

Noting wrong with lively debate, but if people are beaten on so hard they leave or are unwilling to post, that's a shame, and a loss of potential in depth discussion.

I could also tell you about what happened to many of the posters that used to make this website great, but I cannot. Some of the best members we have ever had are gone because they stood-up against what the OP is talking about now.

Ahhhh I so miss the occasional genius post from two members in particular who would grave the philosophy forum with their presence once in a blue.

Hell it's been so long since I've read a good philosophy thread on magick and NLP and how Its influence is used in ritual in accordance with astrology

Really been a while. Lot of new members tend to be too heavy in the skeptic sids and and not enough on the emotional, creative, intuitive, deeply connected side. You know the side that can only be experienced and not read about.

You can change this by engaging that part of yourself and self actualizing with us as I have done with you

Each election cycle, ATS becomes VERY busy with political threads. It's the nature of the beast.

This happened during the last election cycle back in 2012, however, it was balanced out by: 2012. We had lots of doom porn threads about the world ending then.

The thing to remember is this:

ATS is member driven content!

Don't like what you are seeing? Be part of the solution then and go out there finding stuff that isn't politics and post it here. I see stuff out on the web all the time that has nothing to do with politics that would make for great discussions here, but I don't see people posting much of it.

Be the change you want. The more threads people create that have nothing to do with politics means more stuff for others to read and discuss on here.

Personally this feels like complaining about how nothing is on TV but stuff you do not want to watch, yet no one is changing the channel!

I've not see a decent Mars Rock thread in a LONG time. UFO threads seem to be repeats....or crap YouTube channels of people trying to make money by posting hoax UFO vids to get them clicks from y'all.

Just a thought.

Don't enter into those discussions. I have to ignore 90% of threads, and 90% of the posts within the remaining at least 90% of the time. Then when I do post, 9/10 times I have to leave because I hurt someone's feelings or entered into a discussion that's not going to go anywhere good for some reason or another.

Definitely not the ATS I remember many years back on my first account.

I have 50 years experience in subjects that you love..but I've never started an OP in any of the fun-titled forums even once. I mostly avoid the walk of shame forums too. I feel semi comfortable in A&UFO and in chat, but that's about it.

I agree. Most "fun posters" have turned into lurkers.

OK...I have to agree with the OP on the fact that I would like this site to go back to its roots...its origins....I have been a lurker here since the beginning and became a member in 2009, I think.....

I don't post much....but the few times I have lately, I have been up against a different kind of member....

however, i disagree that any forum or thread or topic should be removed...in fact, I notice lately that there is some kind of political correctness censor on here.....(i had a post from March deleted as off topic when I was very MUCH on topic....but that isn't the subject here....)

I wold hate to unmember from this site as I enjoy what I read....but...I am kind of surprised at the responses I read, the ones I have gotten and the general "special snowflakes" I have come across.....

I am just surprised at what I read on here sometimes...and I too miss the "old ATS days"......

While I fully agree with this sentiment, for lurkers or people just visiting the site, the front page is DOMINATED by political posts, posts that have less to do with conspiracy than agenda. This is a massive turn-off to many people that could be excellent contributors, especially if they take a peek inside them and see incessant ad hominum attacks. Who would want to participate in REALLY fringe discussions when people are getting ripped apart by their political leanings? All I am saying is that the environment that is being created is not conducive to new and interesting topics, people that ARE participating in these threads, new members anyway, are drawn here just because of the political atmosphere. It would be a shame to see everything built up over the years become a politico comments section.
