You don't protest against bigotry and discrimination abroad by condoning at home. The position of those in the picture is far more honest, consistent and admirable than that adopted by many of the posters on this thread.

Exactly what I argued...consistency...which is admirable. It might in the end come back to bite them in the ass..as consistency is not always rewarded.

The only ones wanting to introduce "sharia" (whatever that is since, yeah ... another discussion) anywhere are SALAFISTS or WAHABIS, whatever you like to call them.
The rest of the muslims (90+ %) neither want nor would they be able to do such thing because there is no "fixed" Shariah (Law). One can "interpret" and "deduce" stuff in 10 different ways, so which one is the "right" one?
We could use basic principles from the Qur'an, which are basically the same as 10 commandments (i.e. do not kill, do not steal, etc.) and implement this as "parts" of any law.

But if you think we, muslims, will now start to "stone" people to death or whatever - then it is many from us who will tell you "And where in the Qur'an does it say to do that?"
And if you cannot find such a command in the Qur'an (and YOU CANNOT, only in the Bible) --- then you could say "but this and that hadith says so and so".
And then I will tell you "but how can that hadith be authentic when it DIRECTLY contradicts the Qur'an?" ... and so on.

So, yeah, there is no "one" Shariah, and there cannot be, except maybe using some core principles of it (based in the Qur'an or hadith which does not contradict the Qur'an).

If we would go by this principle --- then according to Qur'an it is not homosexuality that is frowned upon - but SODOMY (no matter if two men or a man and a woman do it).

Being gay, i.e. having these feelings is not in any way forbidden in the Qur'an. Sodomy is not directly forbidden, but it is described in a negative way (example of Lot's people). Still, nowhere in the Qur'an does it say you should throw people from buildings or stuff.

I think you are overestimating the percentage. I certainly understand that not all Muslims want it...as there is no such thing on this Earth on which everybody agrees on.

As far As I was told...you are not allowed to interpret Quran on your own or take it too literally...well common folk at least. That's what the Hadiths are for...and it makes some sense...since...there would be too much various intepretations...and it would lead to chaos.

two guys sticking to each other...is considered sodomy. Dont introduce feelings here...because feelings are rarely an issue when it comes to homosexuality. The issue is often if not always boiled down to sexual act. Love between two men is not automatically gay love. There has to be a sexual act to make it homosexual. A father and son love or love between friends..is not homosexual in its nature...because there is no sexual act.

I dont know the numbers...but I've seen some polls..as much as one can trust polls. It's like asking a devout Christian whether he would want to enforce ten commandments as the law of the land. I doubt any devout Christian would disagree. Luckily...devout Christians are in short supply.

Agree on the premise of the thread. You might call me an Islamophobe...I do have a fear of Islamic culture. I cant help it. Maybe it's irrational. It probably has something to do with my country fighting Islamic invaders for 5 centuries. Maybe it's in the genes or something. Maybe I see a neighbouring country Bosnia and Hercegovina...which was under it's influence for mentioned centuries...and all I can say is...I dont want it here. Though it really wont be something I can choose.

In my defense...though I fear Islam...I would never meddle in their affairs or tell them how to live or which law to follow. I support every nations right to enforce their own version of the law. I just dont wont our western society to support it in any way. Again..not that I have a say in it.

Possibly worth considering the stance that Christianity had around only 50 years ago regarding homosexuality.

Those lions seem to have laid down with the lamb with regards to the tolerance of the sexual preference.

And a sexual revolution in our culture

Neither of which have occurred in Islamic society. Heck in every Islamic nation I know it is illegal to be gay, many practise sharia law and it carries the death penalty.

When they (The muslim world) stop killing gays I might take this thread a little more seriously.

Christianity on the other hand stopped killing people for being gay well more than 50 years ago
