This story really took me back. I mean this is 2016 and this couple has to still deal with this. I'm speechless:

A Mississippi RV park owner evicted an interracial couple because of the color of their skin.

“Me and my husband, not ever in 10 years have we experienced any problem,” said Erica Flores Dunahoo, who is Hispanic and Native American and whose husband, a National Guardsman, is African-American. “Nobody’s given us dirty looks. This is our first time.”

Baker, who lives in Aberdeen, said he only did it because “the neighbors were giving me such a problem.”

The NAACP is investigating.

What an excuse. Further down:

Asked if he had a problem with a mixed-race couple, Baker replied, “Oh, no.”

He said his church lets interracial couples attend.

Dunahoo said he told her they could attend their church but “we’re not allowed to be members.”

Baker explained that if neighbors have a problem, “the best thing you can do is what the neighbors want to do.”

Asked if he would rent the RV space if another interracial couple showed up, he replied, “I’m closing it down, and that solves the problem.”

What? So you have interracial couples at your church but you still evicted them because they were interracial? But you don't have a problem? It's not just the fact that racism has played a part in this couples eviction, it's also the cost to them:

He and Dunahoo, who retained her last name after marriage, went to talk to Baker again.

She said she had “prayed and prayed” for Baker to change his mind.

He didn’t.

Baker returned the $275 the couple paid, and they are relocating to another RV park where the rent is higher — $325 a month.

Jesus, it's going to cost them. How heartless are people? I mean disagree with their marriage because you're stuck in history but evicting this couple? Disgusting. I seriously hope owner and the RV park gets more exposure over the coming days. I don't know what more to say.

How about the owner manning the hell up and telling 'the neighbours' it's none of their damn business?

If they don't like the clientele, they should remove themselves.

On the upside, they already know the landlord isn't the kind of man they want to give money to.

Incidentally, for me, this thread is accompanied by an ad for Interracial Romance.

This RV park owner should be fined simply for opening his big mouth. At least he is shutting down the park. No more issues.after that happens.

His church, "lets'' interracial couples attend, but can't be members!?! What the heck is this crap? I hope he gets fined or something for evicting the couple.
I am curious what trouble the neighbors were causing (racial tensions between neighbors?). Sounds like a crappy area to live.
Hopefully the couple finds a better place.

He shoulda just told them it was his right because of religious freedom.

Then he wouldn't be investigated.

Oh come ON! What year is it!? 1949?

If they were being evicted because they were massive scumbags, getting all messed up on life eaters (class A drugs), breaking into other RVs and setting fire to things, then that would be grounds to throw them out. But that simply is not the case here from what I can gather. This situation is just straight up wrong. One of the evictee is a National Guardsman for crying out loud!

Giving in to prejudice, his own, or that of neighbours, is no excuse for the landlords behaviour on this issue.

It's a damned disgrace.

But I thought from your other thread that businesses had the right to refuse service or we lived in a totalitarian government?

Try being consistant once in awhile......

So this is becoming a big story but BLM members beating up a war hero is not worthy.

Funny how there are no quotations around that statement.

Also he said the neighbors were complaining, but he didn't say what about.

I'm calling BS on this one. All we have is her word and no proof. Considering the fact that they're moving into a camper with two kids, I'd say they've got bigger issues than the paper wants to acknowledge.

What's so dramatically interracial about this couple anyway , a person of multi ethnic mix assuming she is not from Spain with dash of native American, and an African American who by their very nature are a heady mix of all kind of ethnic assuming he is not a new American that just stepped off the plane from Ghana and even then that's iffy.

And what is the biblical excuse for not having so-called interracial marriage that his church was able to draw from.

His church is probably of the ilk who believe Cain's mark was dark skin. Whatever they believe, they're whackos if they discriminate against interracial couples. I'll bet they don't have a problem with a white guy and an Asian woman though. For some reason, that's acceptable.

What an archaic A-hole.

So glad they are dying off for the most part.

Think of it as this, their way of life, destroyed the Indians way of life, our way of life, shall destroy theirs.

They aren't dying off.

They are just redirecting their angst toward same sex marriage instead of inter racial marriage.

When I first saw this I shook my head cause it is about time that these things come up. Welcome to the freedom of Religion laws that are being passed.

The legislatures, who are in favor these kinds of laws, are all Republicans and are pushing these laws in an attempt to strike out against the LGBT community hard, after the loss in the US Supreme court decision on same sex marriage. They can't stop that from happening, so they are pushing to where anyone can use religion to deny services all under the guise of religious freedom. And many of the people who voted and thought this was a good idea, did not see what could happen.

The problem is that the LGBT community has had to deal with these kinds of laws before and many of its older members, simply know how to hide and not appear out of place.

Under these types of laws, a person can discriminate for what ever reason and use religion as a shield and now those who are, will have to take such up to the federal courts, in order to get any sort of justice. And this is just the start of a messy can of worms that is going to hurt and hurt badly in the "bible belt" of the USA. This was not unexpected, though the timing was.

Most legislators fail to see that one can not legislate with a bad law, but only hurt. I am hoping that this couple takes this to the federal court and sues, getting the new law struck down, and embarrasses the state and many other states.

This has nothing to do with the new law. The accused denies the allegations.
