I really need to come up with a good scam like this.

At a guess I'd say it's probably something to do with pressure in the water after 15feet messing up the filter or the compressor

Great tech but $300, 1 battery you can't change and only 1 year limited warranty and only useful for 15feet it's a tad expensive. You still need to buy a mask on top of that and probably a wet/dry suit.

I've been wanting to get into scuba diving for a new hobby but it's incredibly expensive for the training and then the gear so I guess this kind of thing is good if you're only interested in shallow diving and on a budget but I'd personally wait until the tech improves and they start giving out lifetime warranties because a 1 year and limited at that doesn't suggest they value the lifetime of the product

[edit]After reading the whole thread... Is this a scam or not ? I don't care either way it's not something I'd buy at such an early stage, I prefer to let others be guinea pigs with new tech and wait a few generations later before trying it out when it's more safer/stable/whatever..

I wasn't making a point that we shouldn't be skeptical, just making an observation that a bunch have jumped in the topic

All right. But the thing is that the people who were voicing skepticism was in response to other people on here who seemed to be lined up holding out their money telling the makers of this alleged breather to "I''ll take it!!" or "where do I buy one!!", or "I'm definitely buying one of these when it hits the market!!"

I mean, how do these people who are all ready to buy one of these know it even works if the makers themselves said they are not quite ready yet to give information about how it works?

I've always wondered if those TV infomercials for those products that make BIG promises must really work. I suppose they might, because there seem to be a lot of people on this thread who are ready to buy this product on just the word of the product seller alone.

I'm still kind of on the fence about this - until they can prove with a LEGIT demonstration or they have found another process to extract enough oxygen from water, I'm not really buying it

Many companies don't release information until the patents are finalized, I don't see anything suspicious about that at all.

Yes, the product certainly needs better explanations, but I don't see how it would be reasonable to be so transparent as to potentially damage the company if someone simply copies their design because of patent issues.

If it proves out, I am certainly buying one

Remarkable technology but why does it only function to 15 feet of depth? Needs to be improved somewhat in any later models produced.

The deeper you go the less oxygen there is in the water. There is also increased pressure which may affect performance.

No idea if this is fake or not. The volume of Oxygen we need versus the volume extracted by the device (given it's size) seems to be a huge disconnect. I may be wrong I hope I am.

It is essentially a filter and the price implies it is disposable.

Cleaning a filter like this could in fact cost about $500 for an individual but less expensive in relation to 1000's of filters or more.

disposable....? No. I don't see how this product is designed to be disposable at all

Then why a 1 year limited warranty?

Probably because they are a small and new company with a new product that hasn't been extensively field tested yet, so it could be financially problematic for them to have an extended warranty.

That would be speculation, of course. However, if they intended the product to be disposable, they would have mentioned it.

what exactly would be the maintenance requirements for a product like this?

That's a question to ask the makers

When they are actually selling them and you can read the good reviews in magazines and by customers who actually bought and used them, it's probably not a scam.

With products "to be released for sale at a later date" you never really know. The e-cat has been about to ship for how long now?I would exercise a lot of skepticism in such products especially if considering investing in the company, but I think even people who have ordered e-cats are still waiting for them.

I'd be concerned about breathing pure oxygen if it really worked. Divers breathe ordinary compressed air at shallow depth and different mixtures for deeper dives but never pure oxygen (speaking as a certified scuba diver I've never used pure oxygen on a dive and I wouldn't want to).

I used to work on MSOCs (Molecular Sieve Oxygen Concentrators) these equipment are used in High Altitude aircraft and sieve the air removing the oxygen to provide breathable air at altitude.

They are pretty big, you could carry it on your back though, but they are very sensitive and very easily contaminated.

If it were as simple as small holes to let only oxygen in, I would imagine that aircraft designers would make small holes in the aircraft skin and catch the air, it needs a unique kind of material to scrub the oxygen, it needs to constantly roatate the material so it doesn't become saturated and it needs a lot of air.

I call BS>

Well. You can help me develop the Firefighter version.

Not only does it suck the oxygen out of the fire (we know it's in there - how else the flames?), but it also deprives the fire of oxygen and that will extinguish it.

An ordinary beedroom sized fire can be exstinguished by three firefighters in about five minutes. Simply by breathing through this device.

i am CERTAIN there was a thread about this idiocy previously on ATS

why do so many people seem to abandon any sort of critical thinking when faced with something like this ?

Yes, more than 2 years ago....
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Also the same silly claims about it, made by people who did not even bother to read how it is supposed to work!

When this products patent specs & videos that are unquestionable, come to light. Let us all revisit this topic. The fun of this thread I made was lost with the technical questions and obvious doubters (to which they have the right).

Let's keep it fun until more information comes out.

Regards,

SK
