Disclaimer: I am actually a strong Catholic and have been for all 18 years of my life. I believe that Jesus is the Messiah but, for the purpose of this question, I am playing devil's advocate.

It was prophesized that the Messiah would come and, well, be a great person and do all of these miracles and preach and all that, but it was also foretold that there would be false Messiahs, like the Antichrist or this Maitreya guy, that would pretty much do the exact same stuff. Now, when there are several people that are saying and doing the same kind of stuff, how the hell are we supposed to know which one is the true Messiah? How do us Christians know that Jesus isn't a fake and Maitreya, for example, is actually the Messiah? It seems like humanity was placed in a bit of a gamble situation, like being presented with three identical cups and asking to choose the one with the ball under it. If we choose one of the wrong ones, we are sent to hell for eternity, but if we choose the right one, we are rewarded in eternal bliss. Hopefully Jesus could've understood when someone was skeptical about Him being the true Messiah after they were taught that there will also be fakes. My beliefs are based on faith of course and the fact that most of the world seemed pretty damn sure that Jesus was no fake and that opinion is what I am asking about.

The next guy who proclaims to be God and have all the answer will be the Antichrist.
Most will fall for this deception and receive his mark and worship him then and only then will Christ come again.
Christ has already been born he will come directly from Heaven and ALL will see him ,when Christ comes again he will be the destroyer and will only save those that he knows.
In other words everyone has had long enough to have made their decision on whether to know and believe him or not.
18 years what do they teach you in Catholic Church,no disrespect meant but i thought this was widely understood and clear in the KJV.

These jesus fellow will come as the "destroyer" and those that don't believe him will be killed?

I am really looking forward to that day.

What is with this maitreya fellow? What does he preach? If he is the opposite of "destroy" and kill, wouldn't that be the better option?

just me, but I believe that god has and always been here, people are too busy with their life to notice.

Christians dont know, they have faith. Faith has always eluded me. Assuming there is only one true God...you're right, its like a lottery, for my soul. I might as well just close my eyes and pick. Im just coming to honest conclusions with the best evidence available. I cant understand why I would be deserving of eternal hell-fire.

The key is .. If your the messiah, I'm sure you'd be proven so without having to shout it to the world.. remember "like a thief in the night" so anyone claiming to be the Messiah would be false.. Get it

Jesus seemed to have a pretty hard time convincing the Jews he was the messiah. I mean, they killed him! Like a thief in the night refers to when the messiah will return, I do get it, but I dont get what you're getting at. Care to explain?

..I mean two totally contradictory things

1: If the Messiah is who he is he dosent need to convince anyone, and everyone would just know.. I mean if you beleive that

2: The Messiah will never be seen, and nobody will ever know they met him, but they will have...its all in bible interpritaion you say Tomato I say Son of Tomato

Antichrist will just appear to be a peaceful man. He will stop war for a time, and use his charisma to control the people of the world. I suggest everyone reads Revelation to see what to look for,

Meanwhile, here's another site that is relevant to the thread ...

Locating the Real Jesus During the Tribulation

In contrast to the false propaganda of the last days, in Matthew 24:27,28 Jesus unveils the true method for locating him in the day of his presence. To do so he uses a parable from nature and a proverb from life:

For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man. Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together ...

Lightning flashes in the east, but the effect of it is seen all over the sky. Yet the flash itself does not involve the whole inverted dome of the heavens from east to west. When he uses the symbol of lightning, therefore, he is not describing a universally visible manifestation of his glory, but the universal effect of his presence behind the scenes. Like lightning flashes he will be seen by his own in different places, at all different times, but the effect of those appearances will be felt throughout the earth.

Furthermore, lightning is sovereign, unpredictable, uncontrollable. So will be the presence, the parousia, of the Son of man. He will appear and disappear at will. Whenever there is need for him he will be there, just as he was during the post-resurrection period. There will be no need to search for him for he cannot be found that way. There will be no need to look for him in the wilderness nor in the inner rooms, for he will come whenever and wherever he finds a heart ready to know him. In the passage parallel to this in Luke 17, Jesus says, "For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of man be in his day." A "day" used in that sense always refers to a period of time, not a sudden, climactic event.

Why do you believe this?

Can you please tell me where you read this? My bible skills are a little rusty. I just remember in the OT the prophecies of a coming messiah, sent to free the Jews.

You know personally I beleive that The Messiah the Jews are waiting for and jesus are just one in the same. I believe that Someone in the distant past got the story and assumed that it was in that time. When in essence the second coming is the Jews first coming, but the second coming of Christ in the NT is him returning in the future (like he knew that he was thought to be in the past, so he would come again in the future)/ the old testament is the new and the new is the old......PARADOX!!!!

Cuz you blamed the Jews for killing Jesus. It was the Romans, the Jews don't crucify people.
I'll see ya down there, I am told that the devils barbique is my next stop too.

Ya' know, I've come to the conclusion like many others that hell can't possibly exist and, if it does, it can't be eternal. I mean, God is considered all-peaceful, all-merciful, all-forgiving, etc. I am nowhere close to any of those things and yet I wouldn't wish ETERNAL hell on absolutely anyone, even a hip-hop "artist."

I agree, it just doesn't make sense. Even the worst villain can only do so much evil in 70 or so years....so they pay for it for trillions of millenia of torture? Doesn't work for me.

According to Share International...

Maitreya = "the World Teacher" = Christ = Messiah = the fifth Buddha = Krishna = the Imam Mahdi

I am also a strong Catholic (I'm a Third Order Carmelite).

Maitreya has been supposedly 'coming' since at least the
early 90's. People have pointed at him as the anti-christ
for decades. I think he's just a red herring and Benjamin
Creme is a con artist. He's nothing.

I think that Jesus was just a soul from really higher realm that incarnated in a human body to help humanity realise that we are all part of god and everything Jesus did (miracles) we can do that too but we can't because we don't understand that we are living in 3D and that our power is beyond 3D...His teaching are great but what really changed since HE came? Nothing! He said we are all brothers and sisters, that we have to love everybody and so on....but that is worst than worst...Religion as we know it just misinterpret his teachings completely to create even more chaos

Since no one listened and we are still at the same point as before he came, something has to happen soon or later! No higher soul like him can incarnate on earth now, he would be a total freak and like everything "not normal" an HOAX....

We humans are too silly to beleive anything out of this world...maybe our saviors will be ETs in a spaceship that we will have to see with our own eyes (if not...Hoax) hehehehehehehe

It's a good question. In fact, I believe it's the first one asked in the gospels. My advice is to read Isaiah, then the gospels. Kind of a before and after effect. Then, as it says, pray to God. Surely God will not stear you wrong. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised in the reaffirmation.
