Boy, that is a mighty racist diatribe.

Not even remotely. Even when I squint real hard and use my imagination...not seeing it.

This story among the dumbest things I have ever heard. My biggest issue is context: my kids refused to eat what was served in schools, with one not eating lunch at all and the other taking a lunch instead.

Metallicus makes the only relevant point here: when you "ban" anything, you are also banning a little bit of liberty for everyone else.

I hate how the pizza in my area is terrible because they are mainly Muslim owned and only use that disgusting beef pepperoni.
It really sucks to have a food you really love and enjoy taken away to make sure someone who wasn't even going to eat it in the first place not get offended.
Why not just not eat the damn pork as it leaves more for the rest of us!!!

Because It might infect everything else around it with its porky-ness of course!

I know. I was being sarcastic. I've seen much more innocuous statements on here being labeled as racist by some very sensitive members. I guess I have to work on my delivery.

But, pork has not been banned.
Contrarywise, there is a proposal that it be required that pork be on the menu.

Even if it is from pig farmers ( there are many in Germany who get they living from pork and pork related industry ) what the decision lacks is public and consumer input. And yes if that choice is presented to public opinion this decision would never took place, everyone knows that Germany is famous of its wursts.
We should also consider the fat which is in pork a bit healthier than it is in beef and lamb. Thicker and less moist fat tends to gather in your arterial veins and cardiovascular diseases are more common in arab countries than it is in Europe, Far East and America.. maybe pork is better choice of these.

Yeah, well. Cattle and sheep don't carry trichinosis.

But, in case you missed it. This is about some venues not serving pork and a proposal that says they cannot do that.

The issue is about government interference to force pork be on the menu, it is not about the government forcing pork off the menu.

Agreed. Pork hasn't been banned.....yet. But the purpose of the thread was to demonstrate that different venues like some schools and some cafes are reacting by cutting pork from their offerings where it was once a mainstay, so as not to offend the new refugees.

As an unashamed pork lover I am offended.

But hey, I'm not Muslim so nobody cares about my feelings right?

Offend?
Not to respond to a changing market?

Halal meat should be banned. Religious slaughtering done to untainted animals is extremely brutal and slow death.

So do you want to ban food for Jews also because they treat their animals in the same way.

Lobbing is very common with industry which gives a lot of work in the country... never denied it. The problem is when that industry dies off because government and county decisions for lobbing religious views "not their own " over public opinions where it leads to.. you can wonder.

Yes and they can import their meat from countries which slaughter their animals in a way they require.

So, you are in favor of the German government requiring that pork be on the menu. Because, again, that is what this story is about.

Some venues have chosen, on their own, to not serve pork. There is a proposal before the German government that this is an outrage and should be illegal.

There is no reason why they shouldn´t serve pork. In schools they already have different diets, lactose free, glutein free and vegetarian diets as a option to main dish. Sure they can serve non pork to those who don´t want to eat it but taking option away from majority which is ok with pork is wrong .. there is the problem.

In a supposedly secular state, why are we even considering removing foods from menus to placate a single religion? I know for a fact that Islam teaches that if a Muslim is starving they can eat what they want to stay alive. So this is just pandering to them YET AGAIN.

I read in the OP article that American schools have already made this move in many places. Are they insane?

The OP makes an excellent point about meat on Fridays for Catholics. I grew up in a household where we only ate fish on fridays due to religious tradition. I would never in a million years dream of asking all schools to stop serving meat on a Friday. If we aren't going to ban all meat on Fridays on behalf of Catholics, why should we ban pork every single day for Muslims?

Who has done that?
Please provide evidence that pork has been banned in Germany or that there are any proposals to do so.

Yeah. But the problem is not with venues who choose to offer pork or not.
